Historia
Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

Historia
Before she went to join Sam and Mogget downstairs, Lirael paused for a moment to look at herself in the tall silver mirror that hung on the wall of her room. The image that faced her bore little resemblance to the Second Assistant Librarian of the Clayr. She saw a warlike and grim young woman, dark hair bound back with a silver cord rather than hanging free to disguise her face. She no longer wore her librarian's waistcoat, and she had a long Nehima at her side rather than a library-issue dagger.

Funny as ever with a whole cast of new characters, like the mad Viscount masquerading as a butler and two American gangsters selling fake shares in an imaginary oil well, all the usual characters to be found in an English country house in the 1930s

Historia
When sensible, sophisticated Flora Poste is orphaned at 19, she decides her only choice is to descend upon relatives in deepest Sussex. At the aptly named Cold Comfort Farm, she meets the doomed Starkadders: cousin Judith, heaving with remorse for unspoken wickedness; Amos, preaching fire and damnation; their sons, lustful Seth and despairing Reuben; child of nature Elfine; and crazed old Aunt Ada Doom, who has kept to her bedroom for the last 20 years. But Flora loves nothing better than to organise other people.

Dazzling and funny!
Revisado: 07-29-21
The book was written in 1932 as a satire on many popular books of the period that assumed the life of the English countryside was seething with barely controlled passions and doom-laden outcomes. Lady Chatterley's Lover had just been published 1929. It is an extremely funny, witty book, much enhanced by Pearl Mackie's reading and I'm recommending it to all my friends.

Ms Walsh does an extraordinary job in re-creating the feeling of the Whimsey novels. I'm so grateful. I only wish that all the novels were on Audible.
