Historia
When the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, its message was clear: Iraq, under the control of strongman Saddam Hussein, possessed weapons of mass destruction that, if left unchecked, posed grave danger to the world. But when no WMDs were found, the United States and its allies were forced to examine the political and intelligence failures that had led to the invasion and the occupation, and the civil war that followed. One integral question has remained unsolved.

Widely heralded on publication as a “must-read” (Military Review) and “important window on America’s battle with al-Qaeda” (Washington Post), Ali Soufan’s revelatory account of the war on terror as seen from its front lines changed the way we understand al-Qaeda and how the United States prosecuted the war — and led to hard questions being asked of our leaders.

The Exile joins Osama bin Laden as he escapes into Pakistan in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, bringing to vivid life the years leading up to his death spent on the run and in exile. It tells the human story, and illuminates the global political workings. It is a tale of evasion, collusion, betrayal and the deep pain of isolation.

Historia
In 2012, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was clinging to power in a vicious civil war. When intelligence revealed that the dictator might resort to using chemical weapons, Pres. Obama warned that doing so would cross “a red line”. Assad did it anyway, killing hundreds of civilians and forcing Obama to decide if he would mire America in another unpopular war. When Russia offered to broker the removal of Syria’s chemical weapons, Obama leapt at the out. So begins an electrifying race to find, remove, and destroy 1,300 tons of chemical weapons in the midst of a raging civil war.

I was disappointed, This had potential but failed
Revisado: 06-10-21
I had become a big fan of Joby Warrick after devouring his other titles. When I got this book, I was super excited and even paced myself so that I don't listen to the whole thing in a couple of days. I was just as disappointed once I got into the book.
The source of my disappointment was Joby's hyperbole and enthusiastic depiction of the approach from obama administration. The book goes WAY overboard when depicting bureaucratic processes and discussions on how to handle Syria's chemical weapons. I felt like I was listening to a campaign commercial rather than a book about events. Warrick's insistence on playing along with the john F kerry larp which goes back to the 2004 election where kerry attempted to link himself to JFK by inserting his middle initial into everything (a level 1 jedi mind trick which obviously didn't work) was a source of irritation. I didn't see him refer to Obama as Barrack Hussein Obama even once. He treats the entire process as if the Obama administration had landed a man on Mars, when the subject just doesn't warrant it.
Overall, I did not enjoy the book at all. Due to Warrick's other successes, I still look forward to future titles. and hope that he reverts to his style which won my heart. This one is a dud though.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Historia
When Baltimore Police Sergeant Wayne Jenkins said he had a monster, he meant he had found a big-time drug dealer - one who he wanted to rob. This is the story of Jenkins and the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF), a super group of dirty detectives who exploited some of America’s greatest problems: guns, drugs, toxic masculinity, and hypersegregation. In the upside-down world of the GTTF, cops were robbers and drug dealers were the perfect victims, because no one believed them.

Enjoyable content, but littered with personal bias
Revisado: 12-04-20
Book is decent, but the author presents opinion as fact and is emotionally and politically incontinent, which is a persistent problem throughout. I enjoyed several chapters, but had to skip parts. Unfortunately, it really dragged the book into the meh category.

Historia
Black holes are the most extreme objects in the universe, and yet they are ubiquitous. Frighteningly enigmatic, these dark giants continue to astound even the scientists who spend their careers studying them. Einstein’s Monsters reveals how our comprehension of black holes is intrinsically linked to how we make sense of the universe and our place within it. From the small questions to the big ones - from the tiniest particles to the nature of space-time itself - black holes might be the key to a deeper understanding of the cosmos.

Historia
A parallel army lives on the margins of the Iraq war - nearly 100,000 armed men, invisible yet in plain sight, doing jobs the overstretched and understaffed military can't or won't do. The U.S. media call them "security contractors." They call themselves "mercs," and they operate under their own rules. Washington Post reporter Steve Fainaru traveled with several groups of security contractors to find out what motivates them to put their lives in danger every day.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-29-19
The title looked interesting, but it's by a bedwetting Washington post reporter. The Washington post is known for using its position to emphasize their world view instead of just straight up reporting. I sensed this bias in the way the book progressed. They claim to be referees, but their calls favor one of the teams, and they wear that team's jersey out on the field. Save your money or credit and buy something else.
