This book caused me to reconsider my views on modesty and its actual utility in society. I see that a great many laws and views of morality are based not just on what some consider icky but in deliberate and malicious intentions

There was no real horror nor madness to this story. It was a protracted explanation of what Cthulhu and company are and it fell flat. Even the “time clock “ was disappointing as it appeared to be derivative of Doctor Who. Disappointed with this one

Premise is an insectoid alien culture with Legion serving as trainers for their military. The training cadre are not to put too fine a word on it a bunch of morons who persist in attempting to get their charges to disobey orders in a society where disobeying orders gets the death penalty.

Too stupid to finish

This book was better than I had expected and I expected a lot. The Predators are presented from their own points of view in several stories I found myself wanting to cheer them on despite their hunting humans

Highly recommend

I like listening to audio books on my drive and though overall excellent driving and keeping up was a chore. The narrator put a lot of emotional inflection into the performance which I wasn’t expecting. I will of course continue the series

Brodsky is an annoying person from the start and his character goes into a death spiral that accelerates with each new development. His devotion to an estranged sister who is at least believable as an unhinged and dangerous sociopath is completely inexplicable. The performance wasn’t too bad but it was a difficult listen especially when the dialogue shifted to the obscure Punk scene that gave rise to the major characters. The fact that all of them were mentally I’ll and the shared music just fed their delusions or perhaps even caused their dysfunction didn’t make the scene any more interesting

This one stumbles out of the gate. I don’t wish to get into spoilers here but the relationship between the ancient bounty hunter and The Dragon is incorrectly classified. The end left far too much up in the air. Was there a war? Was there no war? That seems to be a major plot point that was just blown off as irrelevant.

Our ancient bounty hunter really should not have the sort of baggage that we does being that he admits to losing memories over time. I am still going to give the next book a shot but I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised next time

I will say that the criticism of social media as presented is almost impossible to refute. I saw in other reviews people complaining about his criticism of Trump as if it were glaringly obvious that DTJ is very much a Twitter addict. What I found interesting was his observation that social media caused either "fake nice" or assholery(if that's a word)

He later offers the disclaimer that he has professional connections to LinkedIn which he observes to NOT have assholery as a problem. Having understood what he was getting at with the "fake nice" vs "asshole" dichotomy I immediately realized that in fact the thing that I find most grating about LI is that it's infested with "fake nice"

The added bonus was that the sites "career advancement" was based around an industry of recruiters and job seekers. At a recent seminar on hiring millenials the presenter vehemently warned against using LI or recruiters if you were interested in anything besides "career advancement addicts"

The thing about the Gray Man is that I can get so deeply in to it and it’s so intense that I have to stop reading and just decompress for a bit. There are also little bits of character development of even minor characters that can make you smile and sometimes even be a bit sad should they meet their demise.

The book's blurb sounded interesting however first let me address the title of this review. Currency is called "credits".

We have huge numbers of nearly impossible aliens with detailed descriptions and imaginative names but the currency is just "credits" and it's apparently it's a totally universal monetary system.

Next, Earth supplies nothing but mercenaries? That's not reasonable either though I guess it might be worthy of debate.

Now the mother and father thing is very very odd. There's apparently technology (nano tech) that'd effect major physical changes and result in a non-obese teen but it seems that , no his mercenary commanding father couldn't put his foot down and see if he couldn't override an obviously terminally messed up mother to see to his sons health.

Of course young Cartwright does have some super spiffy implant tech that allows him to gun down some really nasty organ jackers. In one way that was sort of cool but I suppose but I have a HUGE problem with him having quick and easy neural interfaces but he didn't avail himself of the tech to fix his own metabolism.

I don't even want to think about the Brony angle, the love interest and the....animal familiar.

I won't read anything else in this series
