Historia
Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden. In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees...and a collection of precious “butterflies” - young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.

fantastic characterization
Revisado: 03-24-24
I was torn on 4 or 5 stars. This really was a great read, and a very good performance, but the male narrator was not as good as the female one. Her performance was 5-Star, his was 4 at best. The story was very good, well-written, and engaging. It was 4-5 star for sure. The characterization, the details, those were 5-star and then some.

I was upgraded to first class on a flight from London to New York. The food, champagne, and service were impeccable. The blue-eyed man sitting next to me, even better. He was suave and intelligent. We talked and laughed, and something clicked. Fate took over and the plane was grounded, and we had an unexpected stopover for the night. With no plans, we made our own.

Had potential. Failed miserably.
Revisado: 03-04-24
If I hadn't borrowed this free on KU, I would have asked for a refund (something I almost NEVER do). As it is, I wish I could get a refund of my time.
I asked for funny, happy recs from my book group and no fewer than 3 ladies gushed about this series. Look, idk if the other books are better and I'll never find out bc even free isn't worth some things, and putting up with another experience like that is not something I need in my life.
The main characters, and most of the peripheral characters, are unlikeable af. It's impossible to root for them, especially the longer it drags on and the worse and worse and worse the ridiculous behavior gets.
it should have ended HOURS before it did, and the last 1/4 of the book is just the same BS dragggggged out for no reason.

Tequila Key is just like any other small town, and I'm just like any other small town psychic. Scratch that. Tequila Key is a world onto itself and some people might think that I am one crayon short of the box. And, if we're being totally honest, Tequila Key is just like any other small town - if that town boasts a voodoo priestess and a few white witches for flavor. Turquoise blue water and the best margaritas this side of Mexico make it hard to leave.

Not likeable
Revisado: 03-01-24
The characters were flat, 2D, and largely unlikeable, especially the FMC. This was not well-written, well developed, or enjoyable. I'm salty that I bought it instead of borrowing it.

Classic King, modern heroine
Revisado: 09-22-23
I adore Holly Gibney. She's the neurodivergent heroine we have deserved for decades. And King is at his best ever. Like wine, his writing just gets better and better even when you think it couldn't possibly.
Loved it.
I had a hard time initially with the narrator switch from Will Patton, but I understand why they did it, and she did a great job.

Historia
As a premier antiques dealer in Savannah, Jim Williams had it all: style, culture, charisma, and sophistication. But three decades of hard work came crashing down the night he shot Danny Hansford, his wild young lover. Jim Williams stood trial four times over the next decade for premeditated murder. While Clint Eastwood's movie - starring Kevin Spacey and Jude Law - and the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt portrayed the natives of Savannah as remarkably decadent, exotic characters, they missed the surprising dark side of Jim Williams himself.

Excellent follow up
Revisado: 09-08-23
I listened to this directly after listening to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and I was a little worried it would be repetitive and I might lose focus.
Not at all.
The material was supplementary, well-connected, and presented in a perfect way to expand on and fill in the gaps of the Berend book.
I'm glad I found it and highly recommend pairing these two.

Historia
A movie director is charged with murdering an actress during sex, and then staging her death to make it look like a suicide. In a seemingly unrelated case, a loner is murdered, leaving the sheriff's department with no clues. One unsettling revelation after another leaves a retired FBI agent and an L.A. detective thinking they've unmasked a most frightening killer with almost inconceivable calculation.

Narrator is the worst ever

Great novel, not a great fit of narrator.
Revisado: 09-07-23
This narrator honestly would be wonderful doing another novel .. but not Bosch. It just wasn't a great fit following Dick Hill, though the guy in between the last DH and this one was worse. I wish they would redo the audiobooks between Dick Hill and Titus Welliver.

dnf; soured grapes
Revisado: 09-03-23
To be fair and upfront, I did not finish this novel. Not all wine ages finely; some turns to vinegar. Some wasn't very good to start with... This book did not age well, and highlights the ugliest parts of what we accepted and overlooked in decades past. The main characters are horribly unlikable, corrupt, and just overall awful. The entire thing gave me a bitter taste from the first chapter to the moment I threw in the towel.
If you are under 40, or just have an ounce of decency, I doubt you'll feel comfortable with this filthy dinosaur.

Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Historia
The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born.

Not her best...
Revisado: 08-25-23
I love Nora Roberts, and I know what she writes and the pluses and minuses of that exact type of novel. This, though... it had so much potential, but my goodness it was CHEESY, far more so that the usual even for he or for the genre. You never really get a chance to like any of the characters. They all remain largely if not completely two dimensional, and then the attempts to make them more human and flawed just come across as awful and make you dislike some of them before you have a chance to like them at all. It could've been a great story, more real, raw, and gritty than the standard but with the light and hopeful, hea touch... instead it's just awkwardly straddling the line between. I pushed through it, but I feel like I wasted time and money, honestly. I think if she'd made this into a two or three part piece, she could've made it work beautifully. There was just too much crammed in too fast and it flopped.

New characters, revamping old characters, a great twist and turn or three, and a sneaky little cliffhanger at the last second. This is the best Harry in a while, for sure.
