Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

That doctors aren't aware of or refuse to support those who have been saved by the Sinclair Method is a real indictment on medicine today. This book is instrumental in providing a path to ending alcoholism without a constant battle against temptation. Know an alcoholic or drug addict? Share this with them.

A Must Read and a Damning View Into the FBI
Revisado: 08-02-24
This is an excellent story of a rare hero in the FBI. Friend does a great job of giving us a look into the FBI and how it deals with those who stand up for what is right. Sadly, he demonstrates that the agency has become politically captured and acts in the interest of itself rather than the interests of the American people and to the Constitution.

Engaging listen. Full of lurid details
Revisado: 06-23-24
I enjoyed listening to this book and though I had heard interviews and Glenn talk about the level of confession in this book, I was still shocked at the numerous repeat offenses.
Besides the narration, which was choppy but passable, my biggest complaint is that the book seems to lack any real reflection on why we should believe he has actually changed and isn't or hasn't cheated on his current wife. It's not really a story of redemption because he cycles through redemption and his old ways so much it's impossible to know who he really is today.
In spite of all that, it's hard not to like him and I do think I understand more why he doesn't seem to defend his positions much of the time while letting his counterparts rant mostly uncontested about things with which he disaggrees.

Important story exposing corruption in medicine
Revisado: 04-21-24
This is an important story to hear and a disturbing one at that. I don't recommend the audiobook because the narration is the worst performance I've ever heard. The narrator reads like she's got a mouth full of gum. Hardly a sentence goes by where common words aren't mangled or sentences aren't read without out of place pauses or emphasis. I initially thought it was being narrated by the author because, who would pay for such a sloppy reading? It's very distracting but like other reviews, I think it is still worth hearing if you don't have time to sit down and read it yourself.

Historia
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay. Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life.

Somewhat intersting poorly written novel
Revisado: 12-13-14
I had just finished a really well written novel and this was a terrible follow-up. I found the writing to be about as dumbed down as possible, which maybe is the norm for "teen novels". I'm really surprised at the reviews, which inspired me to add this to my listening collection. In spite of my feelings about the book I did find myself wanting to know what was going to happen next and I listened to it at 1.5 times speed. The most redeeming aspect of this book is that it is very short. I will avoid "teen novels" going forward, because great reviews don't equate to well written. If you're looking for dialog that is along the lines of "shut up ass-wipe", then this book is for you. Also, I can imagine if you've been through some emotionally harrowing tragedy and are not as concerned about writing quality, you may find something redeeming here.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Fantastic Book! Outstanding Narration!
Revisado: 10-22-13
I LOVE this book. I found it mesmerizing, like I was transported into another time and place every time I got in my car to listen. The narration was outstanding and I plan to listen to more books narrated by George Guidall. I am eagerly anticipating Helene Wrecker's next book. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed listening to a book this much. I'm sorry it had to end.

I have enjoyed listening to this book. I find the story itself interesting but the writing is very plain and the narrator, as well as the sound quality of the recordings, could be much better.

This acclaimed best seller from popular historian Alison Weir is a fascinating look at the Tudor family dynasty and its most infamous ruler. The Six Wives of Henry VIII brings to life England’s oft-married monarch and the six wildly different but equally fascinating women who married him. Gripping from the first sentence to the last and loaded with fascinating details, Weir’s rich history is a perfect blend of scholarship and entertainment.

Revisado: 03-18-13
I really enjoy listening to Alison Wier's books and this one was no exception. In addition to his wives I learned a great deal about Henry VIII as well. I love this period of history and Alison does a gives a very thorough account of King Henry and his wives.
One complaint about the book is that there is a significant amount of repetitive content. Certain phrases and historical facts are given numerous times throughout. Sometimes it is hard to follow the chronology of events because it is not always clear when she is writing about the future, past or present.
Overall, greatly informative and highly entertaining.

annoying
Revisado: 12-12-10
I saw the movie and in spite of the awkward dialog and acting, found myself drawn to watch it over again and see the sequels. Fascinated, I decided to listen to the first book and read the last 2. I did not like the narration and HATED the way the narrator said "Bella". Since her name is used repeatedly throughout it was very annoying. I can still hear the sound of her voice saying, "Bella", in my head. The writing is certainly not good and the writer's use of the English language is simplistic and unimaginative. Since I didn't dislike the last 2 books nearly as much I think it likely that the narration made the book even worse than it would have been had I read it on my own. I can't believe this book was 2 credits! What a waste!
