"'You knew they were there, didn't you?' Kahlan asked in a hushed tone as she leaned closer. Against the darkening sky, she could just make out the shapes of three black-tipped races taking to wing, beginning their nightly hunt. That was why he'd stopped. That was what he'd been watching as the rest of them waited in uneasy silence."

Jumping the shark
Revisado: 02-26-25
The narrator is horrendous. I am super committed to this story. The author repeated himself so much in this story telling, The book could have been half the length. I will not listen to this narrator again. If I continue this book journey, it will not be in this form.

Revisado: 01-08-25
This was one of two selections for the Christmas reading list in 2024. It was not too bad but it was definitely a Halmark movie waiting to be made. The tone of the narrator was not optimal. It was very very mean girl whiney for all the characters at some point in the story and most of the time for the main character. I was warned by reviewers but one said it got better as the story progressed. I don't find that factual. I'm not sure I'd recommend this to my friends without telling them about the whine and extremely unsteamy romance that doesn't unfold until the last 20 pages. I won't be reading the sequal.

abrupt ending with many gaps in the story
Revisado: 01-08-25
This was the 2nd selection for Christmas 2024. I had hoped to redeem the 1st selection. It was better but could have been a Lifetime for Women channel option. It was a whodunnit. It took a very long time to build up the suspense. It ended abruptly with many unanswered questions.

It had a slow beginning
Revisado: 12-16-24
I almost put this down for not finishing. I'm glad I persevered. It was a story that built on complexity. The ending was satisfying. It didn't leave you hanging and allowed the characters to have a life beyond the story.

I cringed a lot reading this book. It had a lot of inner dialogue, very little action. I'm not a fan of endless tangents. if this ever gets made into something visual, I'm not going to hurry to watch it.

I'm not sure why I don't like this
Revisado: 06-25-24
I started this with anticipation of a great historical novel with a hope of a little romance inside the story. By the end, I was trudging through just to be done with it. I can't really put my finger on why. It was long winded and repetitive. There was so much religion and inner dialogue about things that could only be imagined. I'm not sure the narrative was completely correct or just wishful thinking. I don't know enough about Egyptian or Greek history to be sure of the inaccuracies. It didn't feel right to me. Meh.
