Great story, very original plot which is hard to accomplish in this story line. Regency has been done to a fair the well but Grace Burrowes accomplishes making it interesting again. Character building is excellent (I can SEE Quinn) and the wit and humor you will always find in a Burrowes novel is here once again.

For those of you who read the Longmire series in order, this book will make complete sense to you. If you read out of order, well so be it but don't complain. :-) This is Dark. This is Walt as we knew he existed but don't often see. The wonderful humor of the Longmire series is still here but now we are going into unknown territory. Walt is going to take us on an adventure. And no, there isn't alot of Henry Standing Bear or Vic or Dog. Stay with me now. This story moves and it moves fast. You will see the desert, the people and the culture. I couldn't put it down. It is darker in that while we are accustomed to raging snowstorms, even rattlesnakes, and a multitude of bad guys, we haven't been on this mission with Walt before. Go with Craig Johnon into the heart and culture of Mexico. Johnson has done the research and he knows how to grip the reader. I cursed him out loud a few times during this book but, he always brought me back. And before you write a review of a book think long and hard about the quality of the writing and the depth of the story. You may not like how things go along the way (I mean SCORPIONS...Yikes) but it is pure fiction and it is a literate and wonderful story! Kudos, as always to George Guidall...I know I love Craig but seriously, George Guidall IS Walt speaking.

And oh how we've missed him. I've loved this series since the year One and The Knowledge is like a re-birth. The story is suprising and the interaction we love between Jury and Melrose Plant is at it's best. While Grimes builds the suspense, amazing in detail and gives us an atmospheric London, there are still moments of true hilarity. Wait for it... you won't believe whodunit!

(And a nod to Steve West for his great performance!)

Craig Johnson never ceases to amaze with his skill at character driven mystery fiction. The trip on the Western Star is written in a series of flash backs, memories of our favorite Sheriff, Walt Longmire. A skilled execution of a mystery (I dare you to figure out who dunnit), along with a look into the making of a marriage. The Longmire mysteries will make you want to a) visit Wyoming and b) wish that you could meet Walt, Lucien, Henry and Vic to mention a few, in real life. I like to call Johnson a combination of Louis L'Amour and Wallace Stegner. You'll get your share of Western grit along with a strong dose of heart rendering literary description of the beauty of the West. George Guidall brings Walt to life. He has spoiled me as the Voice of the Southwest, the West and anywhere else he wants to go. Thanks for the wonderful train ride, Craig. Can't wait for the next journey!

Even if you do not love Austen you will fall in love with this performance. Juliet Stevenson is outstanding in interpreting this literary classic. After reading this myself and then watching all the BBC productions as well as Hollywood offerings, I learned so much more about the character development and the underlying society rules that govern all Austen's work. Even if you have listened to another version, you need to hear this one. It truly is outstanding. Stevenson is a great actor and this venue makes her star shine.

This performance is absolutely incredible! Alan Cumming is fantastic as well as Simon Vance and of course Tim Curry. I was excited to find it and will listen to it again every year near Halloween as a tradition. You may find it a little wordy and the writing sometimes tedious further into the story but for the time it was written it really is a wonderful book. Stick with it and you won't be disappointed. 0h for more productions like this!

MC Beaton Gives Us a History Lesson...

Marion Chesney a/k/a M.C. Beaton is known for her quick read Hamish MacBeth series as well as Agatha Raisin. While I enjoy the HM series I was in the mood for regency and had no idea that this author was so well versed in the era. This is a history lesson in coach travel at the time. MCB often starts somewhat slow but then the pace picks up and off we go as fast as a flying machine (or traveling coach!). The main character (NOT Emily) is Hanna Pim, a spinster and former housekeeper. You will fall in love with sweet little Hanna and I found myself finishing the series NOT because I cared so much about Emily (it's a romance, we know there will be HEA "Happily Ever After") coming her way but Hanna I wasn't so sure about. This is a little gem hidden in a world of ridiculous harlequin romances. The narration is OUTSTANDING. I cannot say enough about Helen Lisanti and her skill at doing both male and female voices. She really is one in a million. Take the time to enjoy The Traveling Matchmaker books!

Would you listen to Dreaming of the Bones again? Why?

I would listen again but prefer a different narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

Lots of twists and turn. This is a dark and very well written British crime story.

What aspect of Jenny Sterlin’s performance would you have changed?

All the male characters sound incredibly pompous and arrogant. I had a hard time LIKING Duncan Kincaid because of the style of his voice. :-(

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No but it did make me think.

Any additional comments?

Deborah Crombie is a fine writer. She ranks up there with Martha Grimes.
