Historia
The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

Don't Hesitate. Just Buy It.
Revisado: 07-15-23
This was an outstanding audiobook! Generally, most books on Audible are well read and the stories are interesting. Rarely is the story so engrossing that it consumes you. And that is the scenario here; very well written story, compelling characters, and a narrator that nails it (Ballerini).
Though not a direct comparison, the only Audible book on the same level of quality is 11/22/63 by Stephen King (in terms of literary quality and performance). Hugh Howey is in the highest echelon of modern authors, and he writes damn good books.
I'm reluctant to go into details about the story as I don't want to spoil anything. I'll say that I finished this entire audiobook in about a week, and that took a conscious effort on my part. And after completing this book, I immediately bought the sequel (Shift).
I want to be transparent and indicate that I watched the show first on Apple TV + and retroactively listened to the the book. That said, as good as the show is, the book is a masterpiece!
Looking forward to experiencing many more Howey books and future.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Sandwich with great bread, and ok meat.

Fun story. Loved the opening and closing, but the middle dragged. Seems that with modern Stephen King, the form is better than the story. But this had some life gems and a story that hooked me hard from the start.

Historia
In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.

Well thought out and read essay.
Revisado: 08-19-18
Mr. King offers a neutral and information piece on guns, media, culture and America. He gives an inside view into his experience as an author, gun owner, and member of the public interesting news/politics, and he does it all without painting himself or the reader into a corner.
Excellent essay.
Narrator got the tone and delivered perfectly.
I highly recommend you buy it, and it'll have many listenings as you're sure to revisit it over time.

The other one is the American who can save Cardinal and lead the world to the brink of peace . . . or war. Here is author Tom Clancy's heart-stopping masterpiece -- a riveting novel about one of the most intriguing issues of our time.

Opens with a bang and slowly crawls to the end
Revisado: 06-03-16
I read this book about five years ago and loved it. There are some fascinating parts about espionage, Russian culture and norms, military tactics and other exciting topics. The reading, however, seemed slow and dry. Not a lot of difference between the reader's character voices. I had the same sensation from Steven King's Under a the Dome. Great story with disappointing narration.
As I listened, I kept waiting for the exciting scenes I remembered from my personal reading and they, indeed, were enjoyable, but as an audio book, it didn't do it for me.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Great story, performance and life experience. Every time I refer someone to read this and they do, I have a great sense of achievement. So good!
