Historia
The Darling by Anton Chekhov is a humorous and poignant character study of an endearing woman. Chekhov gives us a puzzling heroine who seems to subordinate herself to the male intellect yet emerges as a gentle woman blighted by disappointment, but still "soldiering on."

Amazing Audio Recording of "The Darling"
Revisado: 05-24-15
Would you listen to The Darling again? Why?
Yes, I'd most definitely listen to Anton Chekhov's "The Darling" again. For starters, Ms. Sara Morsey's wonderful audio performance of this short story brought it vividly to life. I'm very intrigued by Chekov's works, and listening to one of his works out loud provided me with a invigorating perspective on it, then when I had read the story previously.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I'm mostly fascinated with the story's main character Olga. Throughout the narrative my feelings towards her oscillated between sympathy, frustration, pity, and wonderment.
Have you listened to any of Sara Morsey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, I have! I've listened to "Heart of Palms" and have had the distinct pleasure of watching her perform onstage multiple times. Whether it's her audio performances or her performances onstage, Ms. Sara Morsey has the incredible ability and gift to breathe life into every one of her characters. Her wonderful reading of "The Darling" truly aided me in further understanding of the text and the progression of the character of Olga.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes! I remember when I first read this short story in the fall, I was extremely frustrated by Olga's dependence on a man for her happiness and to formulate her thoughts. By listening to Ms. Morsey's audio performing, I realized that Chekov is posing a bigger question than dependency on love for happiness. For me, it made me think about what is the core of happiness, self worth, and the search for meaning in one's life.
Any additional comments?
Go listen to all of Sara Morsey's recordings! They are fantastic!!
