I loved hearing all these tidbits about how the Blues Brothers came to be. It's made watching some of these recent documentaries and shows about the early days of SNL a real eye opener. I've always enjoyed Dan Akroyd and John Belushi (and all the early SNL cast), so listening to Mr Akroyd tell his story, while too short for my wishes, was a great joy. I hope he comes out with more, deeper/longer books about his life. I'll be happily listening and learning when he does... or maybe he has? I should go look now. ✌🏻

Sometimes authors shouldn't narrate

The author is the narrator and he's extremely annoying and even a little offensive at times. His regular "narration" voice is perfectly fine, but then he comes to testimonies or quotes from women and puts on this obviously fake, falsetto "female" voice in a bad attempt at trying to sound like the woman giving the information. At first it was just a let down, then it was annoying, after about 20 minutes into the book I was screaming at the audio player to "STOP IT!" because I actually felt offended at his sad attempt at trying to be a woman. His "male" voices are almost as bad, but at least they don't sound like a guy trying to be a woman and drastically failing. If I make it through this whole book, it won't be because of the narration, it will be because the information is interesting, which it is. I only hope he wised up with his second book and hired a narrator, or even had AI do it. It doesn't cost THAT much, and the professionalism will pay $$ in the end. Seriously, either that or get lessons on how to narrate properly, because who knows how much money you're losing on this because of your horrible narration!

That being said, the information is really interesting. I'd hate to see him put all that time and effort into researching NDEs just to fail because he didn't put time and effort into a proper narrator. I'll add to this is and when I finish the book, if I'm able to get around the annoying voices.

You know how you watch a really great movie, and then you get the book, and it's nothing like the movie at all? No! It's a thousand, nay 40,000 times better! That's this book.

If I had known that this book was this good I would have gotten it a long, long, long time ago! I listen to audiobooks in the car during my commute. This book I listened to while sitting on my couch, too. I never ever, ever, ever (you get it) do that, but I can't say that anymore, because I have now done that with this book. This was the best book I've ever listened to. Period. My gosh, woman, author, you must write another one! Wq%here is book 2? You promised it in 2023, but it has yet to come. Now I'm an author, too, and I realize that sometimes hitting a deadline is difficult. Life gets in the way, but golly gee update your website and tell me when the second book is coming. I got to know! because I'll go and write it myself.

I love the way this book goes back and forth between Clare and Henry. Clare tells her side of the story, then Henry tells his side, and it might be the exact same piece of the story, but just to listen to Henry's side and then to listen to Clare's side... it's just perfect; it's beautiful. And the two different narrators were just excellent choices.

I laughed. I cried. I whooped for joy. I referred my friend to this specific book in Audible. And I never do that. This is "9,000 times read this book". If you like time travel / love stories this is a book that you will love. Don't watch the movie first. because the movie was nothing like the book, nothing! This was so good that I almost can't wait to listen to it again... hours and hours and hours of listening to it, but I'll happily listen to it again. Perfectly written!

p. s. I didn't want to give ANYTHING away. That's why this is so absurdly ridiculously written. Just take my word for it; if you like Time Travel books, you'll like this one! Give it a go. Audible has a guarantee. If you don't like it, you can return it (just don't listen to the whole thing and then say you didn't like it. That's not fair to the author OR Audible.

Robyn Carr is now one of my favorite authors. Her female characters are strong and motivating, and they move the story along easily. This story, about reconnecting with our past, is well-written and extremely enjoyable, an easy read, and entertaining. I always look forward to getting in the car when a Robyn Carr novel is cued up in the CD player. Highly recommended.

YES! Gaiman just gets better and better, and the cast shows up again for another fantabulous performance! If you "read" Act I, you're gonna wanna keep going with Act II... what are you waiting for?

Where to start? The narration is spot on. The performances make you stop and think that radio theater has NOT gone the way of the dodo. This gang brings this story to Life. And what a story it is! I spoiled it a little for myself but watching the Netflix show first, but even though I did that, there was enough of a difference that you never knew if it was going to be the same, so you didn't anticipate it, and even when it was the same, the performance was so different and so excellent & enjoyable that I couldn't wait to get back to it each day.

I'm not going to explain the story. You can read the description above and I don't want to give anything away beyond that, so just know this, if you like DC comics at all. If you like things that go bump in the night. This is the story for you. Gaiman is a writing god. I'd follow him anywhere.

Get the real tea on what's really going on in the Royal Family. Everyone is dishing out crap on Megan and Harry, but they're not all telling the truth. I never really cared much about what was going on in the Royal Family until I read Harry's book. Now I'm rooting for these kids to make it in the Real World. Kudos to Harry! Read the book!

I love Robin Carr. She's my new favorite author and Miss Teresa is my new favorite narrator, at least for women's fiction. This is my favorite genre to read... a little love, but not a romance story. More of a "Here's Life in this little part of the world", like what you'd find in a TV dramedy.

Lincoln / Speed Book One is a WINNER!

Revisado: 12-29-22

If this book is any indication as to what Mr Putnam has to offer for his Lincoln/Speed books, count me IN! I'm a Fan.

Jonathan F Putnam takes the facts of a case and spruces them up, adding a little here and a little there, filling in some details until... voila! - a magnificent murder mystery! Lloyd James is phenomenal at voicing these characters, to the point that I listened to his female voice to be sure it was really him and I only knew it was him because Audible told me so (well, at first you could tell, but toward the end, he was nailing it!).

Okay, the story is so riveting! This is the first book in the series, so we start out with Joshua Speed (who is the narrator) meeting Abe Lincoln for the very first time. I really enjoyed the way Putnam crafted the story around what it might have been like, those two meeting for the very first time... how Lincoln had to order a special bed, and other details that made it so real.

Before too long, the murder happens and Lincoln is pulled in. Putnam has his wry sense of humor as he tells about Lincoln explaining how he hasn't lost a murder case yet... he hasn't HAD a murder case yet, but he hasn't lost one! Each little detail Putnam puts in (I won't spoil the fun) deepens the richness of the story.

The murder is of a young girl, and the aunt eventually is blamed. The thing is, young Speed has recently taken up with said aunt, so he's pushing Lincoln to vindicate his new love interest. More murders happen, each where the aunt could very well have done them. It's not looking good. Speed is desperate now.

Throw in some slave stealing, to which Lincoln has a BIG problem in this book, (This author paints Lincoln as an abolitionist, but there is proof that he wasn't, that he wasn't all about freeing the slaves, but just stopping the war and keeping the country unified) and a great trial, and you've got one masterpiece of historical fiction.

At the end, we are told of every bit of information that Putnam worked with that is true, the historical evidence in its totality to backup this novel, including the details of the murders and Lincoln's trial history. It's extremely fascinating, and Putnam puts it all together. DEFINITELY a worthwhile credit! I'll probably read it again sometime. I really liked this one.

Love me some Abe Lincoln

Jonathan Putnam does a great job bringing Honest Abe and Joshua Speed's history to Life. This is the second book of his that I've read, as this is Book Two in the series (These Honored Dead being the first), and this one was masterful in its historical background, but a little... I don't know if it was just harder to follow or if the storyline was a little more boring for me. Don't get me wrong. I sat a little longer in the car just to listen to this one, just like the first one, but I enjoyed this one a little less. Of the two, I prefer the first one. It gave me high hopes for this one and I was a little let down, I guess. This book was still WELL worth the credit to listen to it!

With that, here is my rehash of the story (no major spoilers).
Once again, Joshua Speed is the narrator of this story, and he's still a bedmate with Abe Lincoln, attorney at law. Sister Martha is also along for the ride. (Lloyd James is amazing at his ability to do various voices, though his women tend to all sound the same 😂, and occasionally he was confused about which character he was voicing) This murder takes place on a steamboat owned by Speed's father (family conflict!) after a rigged card game goes south. Speed gets Lincoln involved to save face for his father - and to save the captain of his father's steamboat, who is the accused, because a steamboat without a captain is of no use! Lincoln digs around and discovers the steamboat is being used to help slaves secretly escape to freedom. ACK! Now he's REALLY got to buckle down, because he's passionate about that, but others feel differently, so...CONFLICT.

Then there's the trial. By this time, Lincoln had been working the circuit and had much more trial work under his belt than in the first book. There is a huge surprise at the trial, then it all gets wrapped up with the

At the end of the book, all the true historical facts are given and we find out what we know really happened and what was added as filler to round the story out. It's super interesting that this murder trial was one of the BIG murder trials of the 1800s, a real infamous crime, and actually played a major part in the Civil War. I'm willing to bet that pretty much no one knows about it today.
