Fascinating Future of Eastern Oregon
Revisado: 08-24-24
This author writes with authority about the landscapes and cultures of Eastern Oregon; combined with action scenes and plenty of character growth, my interest was maintained throughout this tale of surviving a drought-ridden future and those taking advantage of parched reservation lands.

Historia
Doctor Ravi, alien qualified trauma surgeon, or space vet, is humanity’s last hope - only he’s a train wreck. His unpeopled rebel leader grandma has just informed him of a government cover-up involving an extinction-level attack by Earth’s archenemy, the Munchers. Earth’s wartime victory was a lie. To make matters worse, the planetary government has disbanded the military.

Fun satire
Revisado: 07-27-21
Satire is most fun when you can relate to it. Poking fun at our current (absurd) culture and politics, this book has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. There's tons of material out there, and Saving Earth includes a lot of it, from technologies that guide your every move to entirely different realities existing on the coasts vs. inland. Oh, and throw in hostile aliens and you have a great romp through a future reality.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Excellent second novel.

Where does Artemis rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is great.
What other book might you compare Artemis to and why?
It's different from Weir's prior book, The Martian, and if you go in expecting the same exact thing, you may be disappointed, but this book stands on its own and demonstrates the Author's flexibility. If you like delving into future tech, like with the Martian, this has a bunch of that too.
Which scene was your favorite?
Many of the scenes were visually clear. My favorite might be an action scene outside of Artemis in the vacuum of the moon's surface.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Come to Artemis.

Best Novel
Revisado: 02-11-13
What made the experience of listening to Les Misérables: Translated by Julie Rose the most enjoyable?
This is one of the best novels ever written. I was a little wary of starting the unabridged version, but I can't stop listening. Even Hugo's long asides are interesting and entertaining in this read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Les Misérables: Translated by Julie Rose?
When Victor Hugo dives into the character's souls, it's easy to amaze at the depth of understand this writer had for his time.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
George Guidall is a fantastic reader. The voices of the characters, the excellent pronuctiation of French words, and the dramatic tones at the right times make for an excellent interpretation of the story.
