Historia
Success has come quickly to Holmes, Marple & Poe Investigations. The New York City agency led by three detectives—Brendan Holmes, “the brain,” Margaret Marple, “the eyes,” and Auguste Poe, the “muscle”—with famous names and mysterious pasts is one major case away from cementing its professional reputation. But as a series of child abductions tests the PIs’ legendary skills, the cerebral Holmes’s absence leaves a gaping hole in the agency roster. Only by closing ranks and solving the mystery within can they recover all that’s been lost.

Enjoy this Series
Revisado: 12-23-23
Not fond of the narrator, but I listen because the author actually continued pretty much where Rex Stout left off. As an author who has continued another author’s series, he’s been true to the original! I enjoy the stories, but would enjoy them more with another narrator.

Not one of the best
Revisado: 11-09-19
I really enjoy this series, but this one not so much. The story lagged, I thought, and not enough of DeMarco for me. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the next book which, I'm sure, is what the author intended. If you follow the series, don't skip this one.

Love this series!
Revisado: 04-28-19
I've enjoyed all of the books in this series, some more than others, and this one was no exception. I like all of the Oregon crew & look forward to each new adventure narrated by my favorite narrator, Scott Brick. I read/listen for pleasure so you'll not get a high brow review from me, just an honest recommendation for a great series & an always excellent narrator!

Historia
History recalls that the ugly feud between J. Edgar Hoover and Martin Luther King, Jr., - marked by years of illegal surveillance and the accumulation of secret files - ended on April 4, 1968, when King was assassinated by James Earl Ray. But that may not have been the case. Now, 50 years later, former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone must reckon with the truth of what really happened that fateful day in Memphis.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-04-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who enjoy first person stories.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
For it to be written the way Mr. Berry has written the rest of the Cotton Malone series.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
To use a cliche', Scott Brick could read a menu to me. There are some narrators that I do not care for and elect to read the book rather than be subjected to a narrator that I don't enjoy. However, Scott Brick is not one of them.......sometimes a book being narrated by Mr. Brick is the reason I buy a book that about which I'm undecided.
What character would you cut from The Bishop's Pawn?
None of them. I felt that they were all pretty much essential to the story line.
Any additional comments?
For me, this was not an enjoyable book. In fact, were it not narrated by the incomparable Scott Brick, I probably wouldn't have finished this book. I'm a big fan of Mr. Berry's Cotton Malone series, but this one was not fun. I liked to story line, especially as the "history" in this book happened in my lifetime and I remember it, but being told in the first person ruined the book for me. It's not one I'll ever read again.

Historia
Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

Used to wait impatiently for next book. Not anymore. Way too much graphic detail and not enough story. Sorry Mr. Rosenfelt, this book was way too creepy for me! I'll miss the Andy Carpenter series. They were very enjoyable books until this last one!

Too Slow!
Revisado: 04-06-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book is for someone who enjoys being told every tiny detail of each and every charater.
What was most disappointing about Catherine Coulter’s story?
WAY too much detail. It's as if the author was just trying to fill pages while she figured out what to do next.
Would you be willing to try another one of Renee Raudman and Paul Costanzo ’s performances?
Probably not.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Irritation.
Any additional comments?
This story moved much too slowly for me. I like a story that gives background for the characters, but flows smoothly along with the story. This book reminded me of a history book instead of a romance. I didn't finish the book because it dragged on without moving things along and I didn't care for the authors' way of jumping back and forth between characters. I've read books before that do that and enjoyed them, but this book just didn't do it for me.

Not up to what I expected
Revisado: 01-17-13
Would you try another book from Felix Francis and/or Martin Jarvis?
Maybe from Felix Francis and certainly to Martin Jarvis
Would you ever listen to anything by Felix Francis again?
I'm not sure....Bloodline was not what I've come to expect from Felix Francis. This book made me feel like I was reading a biography of the character instead of a work of fiction. I read for entertainment and this book didn't do much entertaining.
Which scene was your favorite?
None that really stood out for me.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dick Francis's Bloodline?
I would have cut a lot of the introspection of the main character. As I said, this book definitely lacked most of the mystery I've come to expect from a Felix Francis book.
Any additional comments?
This book was almost boring....I was tempted to turn it off several times. The only reason I finished it was because I really don't like to not finish a book...but this one came close.

Mike Lawson just keeps getting better!
Revisado: 12-03-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! Mr. Lawson adds more depth to his characters with each book
What was one of the most memorable moments of House Justice?
The meeting in the Oval Office
Which scene was your favorite?
The final meeting between Mahoney and LaFontain
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A weeks' worth of entertainment in just one movie!
Any additional comments?
Having recently "discovered" Mr. Lawsons' books, I am listening my way through them in order and I have enjoyed each successive book more than the previous one, and I can't imagine anyone but Joe Barrett narrating the books.....he really brings the characters to life!

Second book as good as the first!
Revisado: 09-05-12
Would you listen to House Rules again? Why?
Yes! I really liked this book, too. I plan to work my way through the entire series. There are books that you can listen to again and again and I think that this might be one of them.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Well, I did stay up late in order to finish the book....
Have you listened to any of Joe Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, this was the first time that I had listened to Joe Barett. Scott Brick narrated the first book of the series, and I was hoping he would complete the series, but I enjoyed the narration enough to purchase the third book in the series. There are books that I won't listen to, although I love the author, because I don't like the narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. Laughed at Emma quite often....defintely a woman who knows how to get her own way.
