I LOVED THIS. Zach sums up his experience w/ self love, surpassing childhood scars that set him up for failure. He found his way to healing of his mind, body, spirit, soul. He explains the actual work involved. His book is narrative of his life, as a self-help book.
His approach is warm, helpful, personal, & offers comic relief when needed. He is your friend holding your hand while you go through your healing. His approach is the opposite of being a "know it all" "tell all", or a textbook. He wrote this book to be a friend. As if, because he couldn't be there personally to share his story, he wrote it instead to help you as a friend helps a friend. Throughout the book he shares what worked for him. Hoping it helps you too. Knowing that YOU need to know that first & foremost YOU are loved.
Thank You Zachary!

Historia
New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst shares her own deeply personal experiences of rejection from the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over to the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father. She leans in to honestly examine the roots of rejection, as well as rejection's ability to poison relationships from the inside out, including our relationship with God.

Loved it. Narrator = Perfection! She was personable, w/ just enough spunk that seems to catch the author's voice in more than 1 way!
The extra chapter was a succinct gathering of tips & heart centered warnings, & encouragement based on the rest of the book. I really appreciated the last chapter. It makes me feel like I don't need to worry about remembering her other tips as much, because the latter were easy to find & implement.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

SO HELPFUL!
Revisado: 05-13-22
I appreciate the tone of the writer. He is so smart, but makes sure to explain all the medical and psychological underpinnings before he starts a new subject. The narrator was fine too, I had to remind myself, he wasn't the author. I could listen, while doing chores, and stay focused to both tasks. This book has changed my life. The author shares from decades of experience and empirical research. A MUST READ if you want to heal from trauma, understand it more, or help someone. Many modern options for therapy & lesser valued ones were discussed. I feel like anyone who wants to heal from trauma could find at least one of these methods that would work for them. God bless you Mr. Van der Kolk!
