Relatable
Revisado: 03-07-20
Definitely enjoyed this book- I love the way it was 7 stories in one, which all made up Lori’s story. I very much enjoyed going between each story- it read almost like a TV show, visiting each character every so often while propelling the storyline along. I like the way she wrapped up each persons story and how it pertained to her. It seemed like she was being cognizant of the readers attachment to each character introduced. I’ve already started to quote things from this book. One that really stuck out to me was ‘you’re not breaking down, you’re breaking open’. I read this at the exact right time for me. Would recommend, especially for those in talk therapy now.

Everything Kate McKinnon does is gold

I just finished my second listen and I laughed just as hard as the first time. Kate MnKinnon is perfection. Emily Lynne was amazing. They ooze creativity! The story, the songs, the voices and accents and the direction is dead on. This story was hilarious and I am forcing my sister to listen. The Behemoth Song is my ABSOLUTE favorite part. I clipped it. It’s amazing.

Whether Samantha Irby is talking about how her difficult childhood has led to a problem in making “adult” budgets; explaining why she should be the new Bachelorette; detailing a disastrous pilgrimage-slash-romantic-vacation to Nashville to scatter her estranged father’s ashes; sharing awkward sexual encounters; or dispensing advice on how to navigate friendships with former drinking buddies who are now suburban moms (hang in there for the Costco loot!); she’s as deft at poking fun at the ghosts of her past self as she is at capturing powerful emotional truths.

She’s me x100. Hilarious and entertaining, and sometimes uncomfortable, but unapologetic about it. She’s real and everything she relates is identifiable on some level. Her no-bullshit air is her coping mechanism and it’s downright funny as hell. I’m definitely purchasing her other works.

Historia
Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

Read this book. AND listen to this book.
Revisado: 12-07-18
I read this book prior to listening to it. The book was so amazing that when I learned Jenny Lawson narrated her own audible, I HAD to hear her say this crazy shit! Amazing stuff!
She makes you feel like there is hope for your craziness. And that it’s a good thing!
There were a few parts that were made exponentially better hearing it in her own voice. Her accent is adorable too, she doesn’t pronounce the ‘h’ in human or huge. Like the ‘h’ got left in east Texas as people were moving west.
I will say one negative is that her cadence and intonation was a bit, valley-girl-esq. she has the same inflection in her voice with every story that it made some of them sound the same. I preferred reading it, personally, and I laughed till I cried, multiple times. I didn’t laugh as hard listening to it. (Wasn’t because I already read it either. It’s been a while.)
I am currently on her first book, and her inflection is much easier going. She’s actually telling a story there, instead of saying each sentence in the exact same way.
Regardless, she’s potatorific and I will continue to read and listen to EVERYTHING she puts out. Amazing. I LOVE YOU JENNY

Buy the book, not the audible
Revisado: 10-29-18
I enjoyed the story very much, being a fan of old movies. The characters story is a few snippets of her life. Very specific instances, but were left to imagine how certain things affected her. It makes more sense nearer the end. I feel like there is more story there that wasn’t explored. The writing was good, however she always wrote “I say’ CONSTANTLY during conversations. I wish for a “I asked” or “she mentioned”. There are other ways to show who is speaking.
NOW: the narration was HORRENDOUS. The narrator was TERRIBLE at accents. No ones accent remained the same through the book except for the main character. Probably because she is a British woman. The American characters accents were just hard to listen to. She kept blending the British accent with a pathetic attempt at Texan or Midwestern accents. I can’t get over how hard it was to listen to.

Good story
Revisado: 03-13-18
I love listening to Saskia Maarleveld but Brittany Pressley, while still good, made each character drip with annoyance. Every character she voiced apparently spoke very curtly and seemed very annoyed. She did ‘Melinda’ perfectly, but I almost couldn’t get past how condescending and bored she made the characters sound.
Other than that- I enjoy stories that flip between two or more point of view, like this one. I am sure it would have been much more dramatic if the loose ends weren’t tied up, but I am so glad they were. I guess I’m a romantic in that way. My jaw dropped a couple of times near the end, of course followed by an ‘I knew it!’ Will recommend.
