Historia
Cameron Hanes discovered his true passion for bowhunting when he was twenty. Inspired by the physical challenges of stalking elk in the Oregon wilderness—traversing mountainous terrain, braving erratic weather, and evading his quarry’s even more dangerous predators—he began an ever-evolving journey of self-improvement. To become the best bowhunter of wild elk, to the caliber he believed he could be, Cam realized he would need more than archery skills.

I am a huge fan of autobiographies in general and this didn’t disappoint. Great story about a basic guy who decided he wanted to be great at something. I am already a runner, but now I want to purchase a bow!

Good book about ways of improving schools from a lifelong educator. Much of this book piggybacks the famous Ted Talk that he did. Lots of practical ideas that make sense. The biggest issue is getting parents to buy in to a possibly different school experience than the one that they had. Sir Ken has a very dry sense of humor that you have to really listen to, and he pronounces some of the words differently than we do in America.

Keep yourself healthy!
Revisado: 01-27-21
After listening to this book, you are going to want to do everything that you can to keep your brain sharp. Dementia sounds absolutely terrible for both the person dealing with it and those who have to provide care. Dr. Gupta provides a really nice outline of ways to prevent or minimize loss of brain function as we age. Some of the things that he mentions are choices that we know that we should make, but he does a nice job explaining why. Healthy foods, exercise and activities that keep your brain sharp are huge!

Listening to President Obama is amazing and it really makes me miss having a president who actually inspires hope instead of xenophobia, sexism and homophobia. He also does a nice job of coming across as a normal human being, and someone that I would like to have a beer with!

Seldom does a book have the impact of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Since it was first published in 2010, it has been cited in judicial decisions and has been adopted in campus-wide and community-wide reads; it helped inspire the creation of the Marshall Project and the new $100 million Art for Justice Fund; it has been the winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious NAACP Image Award; and it has spent nearly 250 weeks on the New York Times best seller list.

Great Perspective About Being Black in America
Revisado: 11-22-20
This, more than any other book that I have listened too, really made me appreciate how difficult it can be to be a person of color in the USA. I have listened to several now, and this and THE HATE YOU GIVE have had the most impact on me so far. This book just provides a very realistic view of how the cards are stacked against so many young men of color in this country. As a white dude from Vermont, I have been very sheltered from this and really had no clue what it really is like to be a non-white person here.

It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I did not know much about Trevor Noah, but this was a suggestion from a friend and I enjoyed it. More than anything, it is a really good lesson about life in South Africa during Apartheid. As a forty-something white dude from Vermont, Apartheid was never really something that we learned about. Good story on a whole, and like many, Trevor Noah has had to overcome his share of hardships to get where he is today.

Fantastic Book!
Revisado: 11-22-20
This was recommended by a friend as one of the best books that she has ever read. Spot on for sure! Great story about a young, misunderstood, and extremely poor young woman who grows to become a strong, independent, and educated woman. Great from the start, and not too many characters too.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.
