Historia
Meet Laszlo, eight-hundred-year-old demon and Hell’s least productive Curse Keeper. From his office beneath Midtown, he oversees the Drakeford Curse, which involves a pathetic family upstate and a mysterious black monolith. It’s a sexy enough assignment—colonial origins, mutating victims, et cetera—but Laszlo has no interest in maximizing the curse’s potential; he’d rather sunbathe in Ibiza, quaff martinis, and hustle the hustlers on Manhattan’s subway.

Historia
Everyone has wanted their favorite book to be real, if only for a moment. Everyone has wished to meet their favorite characters, if only for a day. But be careful in that wish, for even a history laid in ink can be repaid in flesh and blood, and reality is far deadlier than fiction...especially on Addington Isle.

enjoyable, but fell short
Revisado: 07-16-24
the lore was well written and the descriptive style was great. loved the animal characters and how complicated they were. this was a horror recommendation, but id say dark fantasy. sadder than scary. warning: plot holes/spoilers.
so every year invites and ferry coupons go out- and noone ever returns. noone is curious about this? the waitress and the boat captain keep serving all these people who are never searched for? it felt like this was almost a reimagining if the 1st Thanksgiving, so was disappointed that none of the main characters ended up dying. where is the lesson here for colonialism?

Historia
You may think you know how the fairytale goes: a mermaid comes to shore and weds the prince. But what the fables forget is that mermaids have teeth. And now, her daughters have devoured the kingdom and burned it to ashes. On the run, the mermaid is joined by a mysterious plague doctor with a darkness of their own. Deep in the eerie, snow-crusted forest, the pair stumble upon a village of ageless children who thirst for blood, and the three “saints” who control them. The mermaid and her doctor must embrace the cruelest parts of their true nature if they hope to survive.

loved this- the characters were well done and the story moved between the dr and mermaid seamlessly. I'd be glad to listen to more of their world, even if these two didn't continue as the main characters.

interesting concept

poor execution, narrator seemed to be trying too hard, switching voices sometimes at the wrong point. sometimes needlessly descriptive- not every mouth movement needs a sentence describing it.

A good story, but so many questions
Revisado: 09-29-23
An interesting small town horror story, but...i feel like we need more lore (spoilers). Why does the town do this? No families have been tempted to tell their children? What if the father isnt there to create the face? Why doesn't any October boy tell the others? Why the kids? Why even have kids there? How does the town keep people from leaving en masse, kill them all and no more people to carry it on anyway...the last boy carries It with him?
