Historia
1916: Norma Wallace, age 15, arrived in New Orleans. Sexy and shrewd, she quickly went from streetwalker to madam and by 1920 had opened what became a legendary house of prostitution. There she entertained a steady stream of governors, gangsters, and movie stars until she was arrested at last in 1962. Shortly before she died in 1974, she tape-recorded her memories. With those tapes and original research, Christine Wiltz chronicles Norma's rise and fall with the social history of New Orleans.

An authentic accent would have completed the package!

Great, interesting story ! It’s personally so disappointing to me when the narrators accent is wrong or off etc . It wasn’t a bad voice or accent just not from that area accent . I often wonder do the authors have a deciding factor on narrator ? Seems like they should - but this is very well written and will grab you !

Historia
Shane K. Bernard's Teche examines this legendary waterway of the American deep south. Bernard delves into the bayou's geologic formation as a vestige of the Mississippi and Red Rivers, its prehistoric Native American occupation, and its colonial settlement by French, Spanish, and eventually, Anglo-American pioneers. He surveys the coming of indigo, cotton, and sugar; steam-powered sugar mills, and riverboats; and the brutal institution of slavery. He also examines the impact of the Civil War on the Teche.

Did no one think to check the narrator’s ability to pronounce the Cajun words ??
Revisado: 06-16-21
I LOVED this story! I LOVED it so much that it was utter agony …every single time the narrator slaughtered the most common Cajun names and words. The narrator has an amazing voice/skills - beautiful Parisian French but ZERO ability to properly pronounce the Cajun words- which is so unfortunate . It’s still a great story and maybe if you weren’t knowledgeable on what it was suppose to sound like … lol does the author not get to approve the narrated version ?? Tsk tsk
