Now, Haskell brings his powers of observation to the biological networks that surround all species, including humans. In poetic prose, DGH invites us to see and hear our world and ourselves differently.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Compelling read

What a wonderful read. And our bookclub was so engaged that we discussed it for a couple of hours. Usually our discussions are about 15 minutes max. Lots to think about and discuss.

A compelling read!
Revisado: 09-10-12
I was a bit hesitant about reading this book - what a sad and scary topic. But the author did a fine job of portraying the impact of this hideous disease through her fictional characters and their various struggles with the resulting reality. Touched my heart and gave me a realistic view inside the world of Alzheimer's Disease. Offered great fodder for discuss in our book club.
Thank you Lisa Genova!

Historia
More than 200 million years ago, geological forces split apart the continents. Isolated from each other, the two halves of the world developed radically different suites of plants and animals. When Christopher Columbus set foot in the Americas, he ended that separation at a stroke. Driven by the economic goal of establishing trade with China, he accidentally set off an ecological convulsion as European vessels carried thousands of species to new homes across the oceans.

Fascinating and dense with info

Any additional comments?
An in depth account of human "progress" - the more things change the more they stay the same. Learning the far reaching impact of the Columbian exchange - fascinating and astounding.
