Historia
When Imogen returns to work at Glossy after six months away, she can barely recognize her own magazine. Eve, fresh out of Harvard Business School, has fired "the gray hairs", put the managing editor in a supply closet, stopped using the landlines, and hired a bevy of manicured and questionably attired underlings who text and tweet their way through meetings.

A Must Listen!
Revisado: 10-04-20
I’ll read anything by these authors - their books are fun and fantastic! But the narration of The Knockoff is truly next-level. It is SO good. I felt like I was listening to a one-woman show! Voices, inflection, accents...just phenomenal. It really helped to connect with each character, and the variety spiced things up and made for an intriguing listen. (The writing is awesome too, obviously. Sykes and Piazza are a perfect writing team and always hit the sweet spot between light and fluffy and meaningful.) 100% worth a credit and a listen!

So. Good.

I chose this book after hearing that it was to be made into a series on Apple TV. The premise sounded mysterious and interesting, and since I don’t yet have Apple TV but did have a free credit, I figured I’d try it out. It held my interest throughout and had unexpected twists and turns...one of which I truly did not see coming. Great “read”!

Since 2007 her life has been lived almost as much on the small screen as off it and constantly analysed in gossip columns. In Made in Reality, Stephanie gives an exclusive insight into the trials and tribulations of life on reality TV, taking us behind the scenes of The Hills, Made in Chelsea and even the Big Brother house.

Poor narration, but an interesting, juicy memoir!
Revisado: 05-16-20
Oof, this narrator. If I weren’t so interested in Stephanie’s story—which included details about her upbringing, meth addiction, love life, eating disorder, and reality tv career that were previously unknown to me—I don’t think I could have finished this. The reader’s cadence and emphasis is completely off, and it’s extremely noticeable...At times I found myself realizing that I wasn’t actually paying attention to the story because I was so distracted by the way that a sentence had been read! Her voice was pleasant enough, but she emphasized the strangest things; it was like she was randomly inserting punctuation into the material that didn’t exist and that made no sense. Didn’t love that. It helped to listen to it on a speed of at least 1.2x, but the narration was definitely still a distraction.

Tori is the best narrator!
Revisado: 09-06-19
As a 90210 mega-fan and new mama, I *knew* I had to get this book, and I’m so glad that I decided to get it on Audible! It’s so fun listening to Tori tell her stories—her narration is perfect! The book focuses almost entirely on motherhood and it can be a bit random/unfocused at times, but it’s the ideal junk-food listen. Love it!

This is Diablo's captivating fish-out-of-water story of her yearlong walk on the wild side, from quiet gentlemen's clubs to multilevel sex palaces and glassed-in peep shows. In witty prose she gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at this industry through a writer's keen eye, chronicling her descent into the skin trade and the effect it had on her self-image and her relationship with her now husband.

This is nothing like Juno, and that's a GOOD thing.
Revisado: 08-11-17
Even though I'd owned and read the paperback edition of this book nearly a decade ago, when I saw that there was an audio version of Diablo Cody's deep-dive into the MPLS stripper scene, I HAD to get it. #noregrets I'm a sucker for a diary-style read and tend to gravitate towards tales that discuss the, uh, not-so-conventional-experiences-and-pastimes of women around my age (I'm 26, but also super boring by comparison,) but I like my lit to be equal parts smart and shocking. Candy Girl perfectly achieves that ratio. Listening to stories like this can occasionally get a little awkward, but I found Natalie Moore's narration to be perfectly straight-forward and totally entertaining to listen to...even when Cody was discussing strip club "extras" and giving cd-length lap, no no, BED dances in the champagne room. How she managed to achieve the totally non-cringey recounting I'm not totally sure, but I was here for it. If you're a memoir junkie who's into semi-sordid stories and love a good detail, download Candy Girl, because Diablo goes there.
