Historia
Finola, a popular LA morning-show host, is famously upbeat until she’s blindsided on live TV by the news that her husband is sleeping with a young pop sensation. While avoiding the tabloids and pretending she’s just fine, she’s crumbling inside. Zennie’s breakup is no big loss. Although the world insists she pair up, she’d rather be surfing. So agreeing to be the surrogate for her best friend is a no-brainer. Ali is used to being overlooked, but when her fiancé sends his disapproving brother to call off the wedding, it’s a new low.

Wedding-dress designer Jenny Tate understands the happily ever after business, yet somehow she's still involved in her ex-husband's life. In fact Owen's new wife may - inexplicably - be Jenny's new best friend. NOT WORTH THE TIME
Revisado: 10-04-15
I know this author has a rabid and loyal group of followers. This was my first Kristan Higgins novel. I'm sorry, but I really didn't like this book. I spent most of my reading time gritting my teeth and wanting to knock some sense into most of there characters. Where to start. The two main character are sisters who spend 99% of the novel giving each other advice while refusing to follow it themselves. Jenny insists on staying friends with the ex husband who dumped her and his new wife. She even delivers their new baby. Her boyfriend is a sad, handsome and charming bad bet whose "secret" I could see coming a mile away. Rachael's husband is an insincere slimed cheat who is caught lying over and over again while his wife continues to fight for their marriage. Another of the other main characters is a 40 year old man who lets his mother run his life and verbally and emotionally abuse his 24 year old pink haired food service worker/singer/nutritionists fiancé. Are there any normal people in this town? Is there any single woman who doesn't think like an eighteenth century maiden--that life isn't worth living without a man. Hello--it's 2015. Then in the last two chapters, everyone abruptly changes their mind set and reverses the course they rigidly stayed in the entire novel. I guess the author got bored and needed to wrap it up. Sigh. I did like Evander and his story line. The rest; not so much.

Historia
With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

Better off Watching than Reading!
Revisado: 05-30-15
What is rich and nuanced in the television show comes across in print as the poor, poor, pitiful me whining of a rich, priviledged white girl who got caught. I couldn't help thinking about what was happening to the other women--the one's without private lawyers and rich parents to fight to reduce their culpulbility and sentences. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, Piper. Hope she is splitting her riches with the more interesting women in the book.

Historia
After disgracing themselves at a high society New Year's Eve party in Philadelphia in 1944, Madeline Hyde and her husband, Ellis, are cut off financially by his father, a former army colonel who is already ashamed of his son’s inability to serve in the war. Ellis and his best friend, Hank, decide that the only way to regain the colonel's favor is to succeed where the colonel very publicly failed - by hunting down the famous Loch Ness monster.

Skip It--Could Have Been So Much Better.
Revisado: 05-30-15
I so wanted to love this novel as much as I loved her first. I just couldn't do it! The narrator does not help, as she has the most annoying vocal tone in the world, and her attempts at "manly" voices are just laughable. While you can forgive a novel for starting off slowly, this one never picks up speed or steam, and the loathsome, whinny characters give you nothing to root for, like, or hang on to while you are waiting for the story to move along. All around disappointing.

Historia
The sorority sisters of Alamo House at the University of Texas may be at comic odds with each other, but at least they have one thing in common: they all hate the fraternity rats across the street, the Sigma Upsilon Kappas, aka the SUKs. But amid the collegiate turmoil, Alamo House is also the scene of an extraordinary, endearing friendship among three women.

Don't Bother!
Revisado: 10-25-14
I read anything and everything and there has never been a book so horrible I couldn't finish it. Until now. I couldn't do it. This book is horrible. The story is inane and makes little sense. The plot drags--the author seems to think that introducing new characters every chapter is plot development. The stock characters are so badly developed that you don't really care what happens to any of them. Save your money and listen to something--ANYTHING--else.

Ignore the Premise and Read It!
Revisado: 04-27-12
Don's let the description put you off what is actually a cute story. This book was suggested to me by a friend and I read the description and thought I would hate it--guy makes a bet that he can date a girl. But I actually thought it was a fun read. All of the characters were different than you would expect and the story was deeper than the impression you get by reading the description. I really enjoyed it. My only criticism is that I wished it hadn't ended so abruptly--and the tacked on 5 years later epilogue didn't help or satisfy.

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Funny!
Revisado: 04-27-12
Clever, funny and a really good story. I really like this book, although the author seemed to run out of steam in the last 20% of the book. But this modern take on the "scorned wife gets revenge by finally taking her life back" story was really well done. A fun, easy read that you won't regret.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

I really enjoyed this one!
Revisado: 04-27-12
I really enjoyed everything about this one! The narrator was good and the story was fun. The characters were realistic and vivid and the family dynamic was believable and nicely drawn. Not an easy task to knit so many characters together seamlessly and realistically but the author did it and did it well.
