nothing ruffles her, nothing surprises her, she does not suit her culture at all but it never adversely affects her. shes rude and condescending to everyone, but everyone seems to like just fine. the entire quarter of the book they are at the circus is fun but has no affect on the plot whatsoever. it is character development but not plot. she had a witty reply and no fear even when it's ridiculous. also (even as a woman myself) I found her hatred of men off putting. if the roles were reversed we'd hate the character but for her it is bold independence? no thanks. anyways liked the world, the other characters, the mystery and ideath, but did not like the main character

I really appreciated this brief summation of Melanchthon and wish this great church father was more well known as he is fascinating and inspiring. I appreciated the inclusion of his Melanchthons own words as a way to understand him. my only issue with the author's in-narrative dismissal of any theology he did not personally agree with. It felt unprofessional and presumptuous. But again, I appreciated the opportunity to learn and understand Melanchthon better

it's sold as a sweet, single dad, gentle romance and it was not. The main character I found very weak but even if she had good reason for her constant weakness and misery it wasn't what ppl look for in a 'sweet' story. maybe if it was marketed as a emotional recovery or found family I would have come it in the right headspace. but also I didn't enjoy the writing style, finding it overly descriptive where it didn't need it. over all there was too much contemplation over misery while describing exactly how the microwave was turning. also the story didn't end and there is no reason a story like this needs more than one book. a cliff hanger? really? in a 'sweet tea' romance? not for me

the main character is so resilient and relatable while still being distinct. I really enjoyed all the life details and the flushed out side characters. the bad guy was well done and the plot was well paced and suspenseful. the only weak point (just my feeling) was the romance, it just felt dry, I didn't get a spark. but I definitely loved this book, would recommend for crime drama!
