Historia
Meet Don. Don is a genetics professor who just might be somewhere on the autistic spectrum. He looks a little like Gregory Peck and is getting married. He just doesn’t know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. And it’s definitely not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not .Rosie, meanwhile, isn’t looking for love; she’s looking for her biological father. Sometimes, though, you don’t find love: love finds you...

Disarming novel
Revisado: 01-18-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Rosie Project to be better than the print version?
I think both are excellent. The story is strong in itself, but also really well read.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character Don. The fact that he takes everything literally and that he observes the behaviour of people around him so accurately makes him a great character. It didn't only make me laugh out loud several times, but it also made me realise how strange certain phrases and some conventions actually are.
What about Dan O'Grady’s performance did you like?
He just was Don, no doubt about it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh out loud several times. I was also very touched by the difficulty Don sometimes has to cope with.
Any additional comments?
An excellent novel which will make you smile, laugh out loud and make you understand Asperger's (and autism in general) a bit better.

Historia
Usually, this is where we'd tell you what this book is about. But with Chris Cleave, it's a bit different. Because if you've read The Other Hand or Incendiary, you'll know that what his books are about is only part of the story - what really matters is how they make you feel. Gold is about the limits of human endurance, both physical and emotional. It will make you cry. Gold is about what drives us to succeed - and what we choose to sacrifice for success. It will make you feel glad to be alive.

Chris Cleave does it again
Revisado: 06-09-13
What did you love best about Gold?
Like in all of Chris Cleave's novels, you've got to love the characters. Even the characters that seem tough and unkind (and that's what you would probabaly think if you met them in real life) are shown in a way that makes you love them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Gold?
The scene in which Zoë, Jack and Kate meet for the first time. It shows you very well what kind of persons they are.
Have you listened to any of Emilia Fox’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't, but I liked the way she narrated the story very much.
Who was the most memorable character of Gold and why?
I loved Zoë best. The way she is struggling and fighting against (the consequences of) her past is impressive. Sophie is disarming in everything she says, thinks and does. Jack and Kate can be a bit too perfect here and there, but believable nevertheless. Tom is a strong character as well, especially in the way he (tries to) understand and help Zoë. All in all, I loved all of the characters; they really make this story what it is.
Any additional comments?
If you are a Chris Cleave fan (or want to become one), this is certainly a novel you should listen to (just like his other novels). Wonderful!

Confronting story
Revisado: 06-26-12
Would you listen to Noughts and Crosses again? Why?
No, once was nice, but also enough.
What did you like best about this story?
It confronts you with your views and makes you think about the stereotypes you have.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
It was nice that there were 2 narrators for the 2 main characters. However, the girl was a bit overdramatic every now and then (Syan Blake) and the boy was a bit difficult to understand here and there (Paul Chequer).
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending: unexpected!
Any additional comments?
Listen to the sample first before you buy. If you like the narrators, this is definitely a story worth listening to.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 06-24-12
Would you listen to Baking Cakes in Kigali again? Why?
Yes I certainly would since this is such a wonderful story, read in a fantastic way.
What other book might you compare Baking Cakes in Kigali to and why?
No other books. It is unique in that it is a frame story, in which the main story is most important and focused on.
Which character – as performed by Sandra James-Young – was your favorite?
The main character Angel is definitely the most loveable character, although the way Angel approaches all the other characters makes them all special in their own way.
If you could take any character from Baking Cakes in Kigali out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Angel, eating her cakes of course.
Any additional comments?
Listen to this wonderful story with sadness and tragedy, but also love and happiness in it.

Excellent narrator for a hilarious and sad story
Revisado: 04-17-12
What made the experience of listening to Skippy Dies the most enjoyable?
Skippy Dies not only is a great story (hilarious and sad at the same time), but was even more enjoyable due to the excellent narration. All the characters, with their different accents, were really brought to life by Patrick Moy.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Skippy Dies?
All the conversations amongst the boys who are in the midst of their puberty. Hilarious!
Have you listened to any of Patrick Moy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't, but sure would like to after this one.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh heaps of times, although it was extremely sad at other times.
Any additional comments?
A great listen. Not only because of the above-mentioned things, but also because of the critical attitude of the author towards traditional catholic boarding schools like this one, without becoming moralistic.

Great novel and Vance is also a great reader, but the audio quality is very poor. It is old and there constantly is noise in the background. Also, you often hear an echo.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 02-14-11
Wonderful audiobook. Not only the novel is great, but it was read in a wonderful way by Charlotte Parry. Parry makes it very easy to relate to the main character. It doesn't happen very often to me, but I actually shed some tears during the final chapter.
