Utopia and history told in a lovely way

The history, characters and the relationship between them was so interesting. The book is long, but I listened straight thru as the story was fascinating. The author melded current day themes with futuristic ‘predictions’ with references to politics and all around a family and an historic house in NYC. Highly recommend.

A book every daughter should read.

The author’s description of a mother’s love for her child, especially a daughter, reminded me of all the feelings I had when my daughter was brand new. I loved the best of the author’s mother and how the love connected all three main characters. Much of the despair of divorce and how it impacts a family was beautifully described. The book was poetic. Very much liked the author’s narration. It was a tad/long redundant by the end, but, but still worth reading or listening.

Sweet funny lighthearted

Entertaining & fun, with interesting theme

Family drama & coming of age

The character development was thought provoking, realistic and interesting. The family dynamics and friendships were interesting and sweet, yet the characters were true to reality flawed individuals. Loved how history, the story of the family’s immigration and art were all weaved together to bring some mystery to how the story surprisingly unfolded. I’d never have predicted the ending. I truly w enjoyed this novel. The audio performance added life to the characters. Highly recommend!

So clever!

Loved the story from start to finish! Best audio book I’ve listened to since Tom Lake. The characters were fully developed, human and satirical wrapped together marvelously. A family saga that reminds one of Long Island and era. The narrator was excellent too. I encourage listening all the way thru the authors notes at the end. Highly recommended!

Touching, fun, and realistic

Enjoyed the references to the art and advertising world twisted in amongst the story of a younger woman/older man relationship. I’d recommend it. Meatier than a summer read, but equally entertaining.

The story was lovely. The relationships between the sisters and their mothers really resonated. It was tormented and sweet.

I didn’t care for the voice of the narrator. Although the book has beautiful prose and the narrators accents was the native tongue of the main characters it was choppy and distracting to the telling of the story.
