Historia
You live in your dream house, but there's no mortgage. No alarm clock, no boss, no bills. No claims on the day's time other than what you choose. It is making more money before breakfast than you made for an entire week at your last job. It is a crazy expensive car parked in your garage, a victorious symbol that your dreams no longer sleep in fantasies, but are awake with reality.

Good but
Revisado: 12-27-19
Not as good as the first book. The author introduced a good material but contradict himself several times. He started with a good (known) fact that our lives are scripted and I promise to unscript it for you. Fine, then he start an unnecessary war against personal finance authors by making fun of their basics: saving, changing the way to view money, alter the bad money-management behavior, investing, giving more getting...etc.
Fine again, then he spend some chapters giving advice about how to find the perfect business and how to manage it, which was the best part pf the book. Finally, and here’s the strange part, the author starts giving the same personal finance advice that he waged war against those who gave it to their readers. He endorses saving and changing the way we should view money and offers ways to invest in stocks and bonds and how to split our money....
The three stars rating is basically just for the business part, all other chapters are just a mix of humor and bad-wording the “scripted” mentality

Not what i expected
Revisado: 12-13-17
Would you try another book from Ray Dalio and/or Ray Dalio and Jeremy Bobb ?
When i first heard about Ray Dalio writing a book about his principles i thought it would be full of "investment" insights. The one a listened to was so generic and hardly related to investment. Sure it is a good idea to listen to a great guy talking about his experience in life, but what i wanted out of this book is the investment ideas that lead this person to become one of the most successful investors in the world. Ray ventured into areas totally beyond his field of excellency. If i want to read a book about the "brain", i would pick one written by an expert not an investor (however great he is). The same goes for all the other areas that Ray spent a good deal of the book talking about.

Kafka is one of 161 inspired-and inspiring-minds, among them, novelists, poets, playwrights, painters, philosophers, scientists, and mathematicians, who describe how they subtly maneuver the many (self-inflicted) obstacles and (self-imposed) daily rituals to get done the work they love to do, whether by waking early or staying up late; whether by self-medicating with doughnuts or bathing, drinking vast quantities of coffee, or taking long daily walks.

good read, not exceptional
Revisado: 12-13-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The book offers a good habits to be followed (or inspired by) from a huge variety of sources (people). However, the rituals mentioned are not necessarily the ones that lead these great people to outperform the others. if someone is used to drink a certain amount of drugs at night doesn't mean that is this ritual was the reason for his great achievements. It would be better if the author divided the book into specific areas for each category of rituals. one for timing another for sleeping a third for dieting..etc.
What about Adam Verner’s performance did you like?
The narrator made a great job.

Historia
From Frank Brady, who wrote one of the best-selling books on Bobby Fischer of all time and who was himself a friend of Fischer’s, comes an impressively researched biography that for the first time completely captures the remarkable arc of Bobby Fischer’s life. When Bobby Fischer passed away in January 2008, he left behind a confounding legacy. Everyone knew the basics of his life—he began as a brilliant youngster, then became the pride of American chess, then took a sharp turn, struggling with paranoia and mental illness. But nobody truly understood him.

Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative.

Any additional comments?
For the first hour or so of listening to this book, i thought it's just another "get rich quick" thing. then after forcing myself to complete the whole book (a thing that i highly recommend others to do), things started to shift to the other side. the author begin to describe his way of accumulating wealth, and how he overcame popular obstacles in order to be rich.
Although he criticized some of the most famous personal finance gurus, yet he used some of their methods. not so nice but a clever move.
One of the most moving aspects in the book, is the idea of having money while still in "relatively" young age. That reminded me of John Maynard Keynes's famous saying: " in the long term, we all will be dead".
Finally, i believe that any one searching for wealth probably will find some useful tips in this book.

We all learn at least one language as children. But what does it take to learn six languages...or seventy? In Babel No More, Michael Erard, "a monolingual with benefits," sets out on a quest to meet language superlearners and make sense of their mental powers. On the way he uncovers the secrets of historical figures like Italian cardinal Giuseppe Mezzofanti, who was said to speak seventy-two languages; Emil Krebs, a pugnacious German diplomat, who spoke sixty-eight languages; and Lomb Kat, a Hungarian who taught herself Russian by reading Russian romance novels.

Good for travelers
Revisado: 10-20-13
Would you listen to Spanish for the Busy Traveler again? Why?
In genera, this book is a good reference for those traveling to a Spanish speaking countries. Also for those studying Spanish may found it useful. Still there were three things that I didn't like about this audio:
1- The narrator's voice was loud and kind of sharp.
2- It focuses on Latin Spanish without any mentioning of Spain Spanish.
3- Some times, it waste the time by associating some vocabulary words with an English words or some other thins, which I found unnecessary.
Overall, I cant say I didn't benefited from spending money and time on this audio, as a mater of fact I highly recommend listening to as much as you can on these audios in order to enhance your Spanish.

Would you consider the audio edition of Breakfast with Buddha to be better than the print version?
The performance is amazing. The way the narrator change his voice to imitate the foreign language is so professional
What other book might you compare Breakfast with Buddha to and why?
Compared to other “seek yourself” books, this one is considered one of the best. Linking the ideas of the author with a story makes it very enjoyable journey.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't encounter a complete change after reading the book, but it really helped me with reviewing some aspect of my current “material” life.

Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that once we succeed, we’ll be happy; that once we get that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But the science reveals this formula to be backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

Historia
Most of us grew up with the idea that there is good debt and there is bad debt. Good debts are generally considered to be debts you incur to buy things that can go up in value—like a home or college education. Bad debts are things like credit card balances, where you borrowed money to buy things that depreciate or go down in value, like most consumer goods.

Pure commercial
Revisado: 01-10-11
Other than few immaterial, known information, the book offers nothing. from the beginning to the end, the author talks either about how great financial planner he is or about his products, as if you’re watching a commercial ad. Not worth reading.
