Good fun.

Good fun. I wish it moved a little more and resolved a little more epically but I enjoyed it. Would listen more.

Brutal and Interesting
Revisado: 02-20-25
It’s brutal and it’s different. Not YA or easygoing, but ultimately it’s good. It’s a good mix of things both familiar and unique.

Historia
Absalom Scryne, the greatest wizard of his generation, has been murdered. There's no other explanation for why his consciousness now resides in his well-worn but perfectly pointed hat. Well, he isn't going to take that lying down . . . or hanging from a branch, as the case may be.

Revisado: 01-11-24
It’s pretty much in the title. Overall I wish it would have gotten somewhat more resolved at the end, but eh I get it, that’s what a sequel is for. It was still fun. I hope Ig gets a sequel to himself tbh.

Jax is a pretty regular guy, has a job he tolerates, a girl he kinda, sorta loves...and he fights creatures from the UnderVerse in his sleep, leaving him covered in horrific scars when he wakes up. When his brother vanishes, and five years later he's kidnapped as well, he's given a stark choice by his asshat of a father: Go to the UnderVerse in reality, travel to the capitol of that ruined realm at the center of reality, and open a portal for the Noble Houses to return home...or die.

Revisado: 12-09-22
This story is pretty good, very visceral, the only thing that took me out of it was the narrator’s bad Adris Alba impersonation the entire time. Really not good, but the story made up for the awful ear quality imo.

Better than the sum of its parts
Revisado: 11-16-22
It’s not breaking a lot of new ground here. The setting is essentially Fallout 4, with a little bit of Mandolorian mixed in. That said it does a good job of keeping the action going and the characters are all pretty good too. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for a post apocalyptic adventure.

It’s okay. Not the best but worthy of a listen. The rpg bits could’ve been left out entirely and it wouldn’t have detracted.

Too Much Game not Enough Story
Revisado: 11-01-22
This book leverages far too much on the mechanics and is constantly smacking you with UI and numbers for the damage and MP. It gets in the way of telling the story and bogs down what little action there is. The rpg stuff should be for establishing a setting and the rules then should mostly take a backseat and allow the story to play out IMO. Decent but not worth the subsequent follow ups for me.

Pretty good.
Revisado: 10-18-22
Odd systems and weird intro in the the world. There is a little weakness to the plot that ties Ed’s earth with the world and some the action seems a little trite imo. Still overall it was fun enough and I’d like his abilities to build. I would be interested to see where it goes.

They plucked him out of his own familiar world to kill him with extreme prejudice. This is what always happens to those who are just food in the bowl for someone with a better luck. But consider yourself warned: he is a very special food - the kind that eats you right back. Think again whether you really want to come and get him. And if you still do, just stay put. He'll come for you himself.

The narrator seems off.
Revisado: 07-28-22
The narrator does okay but the read sounds like a transcript of two non-English speaking people or something. It’s like the slight pauses between words are off or strangely emphasized. I can’t even really put a finger on it but it was hard to get around.

Historia
When the world was young and Gods still walked among their mortal children, a headstrong orphan boy set out to explore the world. Thus began the extraordinary adventures that would mold that youthful vagabond into a man and the man into the finely honed instrument of Prophecy known to all the world as Belgarath the Sorcerer. Then came the dark day when the Dark God Torak split the world asunder, and the God Aldur and his disciples began their monumental labor to set Destiny aright.

Boring!
Revisado: 09-01-21
I think this author thought that the massive amounts of time that passed during this book made it more interesting than it did. He does about three feats of actual magic in the whole book and one is conjuring a hanky. The vast majority of the book is spent with the main character running from place to place to warn people about things, that then fall flat without much impact or drama or excitement.
