Historia
When they hanged mage Baron Homburg and his family for treason, they missed one of his sons. The fourth son, ten-year-old Dale, witnessed the execution of his family, and something inside him broke. Two things happened that day: one, Dale became a borderline sociopath, and two, his mage abilities manifested at almost full strength, especially his wood or forest magic. That night he used his new wood magic to hang the earl who ordered the killing of his family.

I love his books and I want a second book badly.
I have most of the collection, and look forward to expanding my collection. With more of his works this one reminds me of dragons envoy and magethrone prophecy

A whole Lotta meh.
Revisado: 11-28-23
I can't tell what I dislike more the story or the narrator. the story's pace is lacking, the story feels flat and one dimensional. The main protagonist is a brat with theemotional range of a tea spoon. the narrator has no range what so ever it makes it quite difficult to keep track of who's doing what and where. no difference in voices. overall a pass for me.

Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it. With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate. The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger. While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble.

The political nonsense was a bit of a slog . carecter building that when nowhere.
But Jason working though his problems was a nice change . and a great set up for the next book would've like to have Jason be more of a focal point. more action less politics. the book also seemed short like it didn't go anywhere not sure how that happened. but I pleasantly awate the next installment already pre ordered lol much love ;)

Way to stat heavy.
Revisado: 07-10-21
The story is good but the overuse of stats ruins the immersion.
The last 45 mins is a recap of stats before the last battle takes place.
A major waste of time that could have been spend forwarding the story and driving carecter development. overall a good book with a few flaws it suffers from the same problem as the land book 8 half the time it's stats begin forced down your throat , we get it we know what level he's at we just heard it three sentences ago! I wanna hear a story not a dnd stat list on repeat.

Historia
The Founders were the first marked, and they used those powers to build kingdoms, subjugate the land, and enrich themselves. They will not suffer another to join their ranks. Lost in a world with levels, stats, and monsters, Hal fights to survive in an unforgiving land, and to escape execution from its rulers. Ingenuity and courage won’t be enough. With marked powers he doesn’t understand, he’s easy prey for all the goblins, bandits, aberrations, and foul monsters that plague the realm. He’ll need to abandon his humanity by embracing the beast within.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

loved it
Revisado: 05-19-21
first off I loved this book,it everything I want in an rpg,the narrarator is stellar and the narrative is fast pasced an constantly evolving.
and it doesn't suffer from getting bogged down by stat lists or pointless mechanics. although I'm hoping the magic gets expanded apon in the next book . word of caution though there is political points and Jason is a snarky sh1t but I enjoy all the snark . he's like my inner voice given form. happy listening everyone, rock on 🤘and peace ✌out.
