Historia
Duchess Day Radley is a 13-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw. Rules are for other people. She is the fierce protector of her five-year-old brother, Robin, and the parent to her mother, Star, a single mom incapable of taking care of herself, let alone her two kids. Walk has never left the coastal California town where he and Star grew up. He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. And he's in overdrive protecting Duchess and her brother.

Loved this story and the way the characters were developed and ultimately connected. The many twists left me sitting in my car multiple times while trying to get to a stopping point! devotion and loyalty drive each character- making the story poignant AND inspiring. The author also does a great job using the title phrase as a sort of punctuation to highlight the themes.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

An unlikely story that was so likeable!
Revisado: 06-18-24
I loved the layers of the story and the way they ultimately came together. I thought Cameron’s actions seemed like he was much younger than the 30 year old Van Pelt described. Other than that, the development of the main characters through understanding their thoughts was fabulous. But, the perspective of Marcellus was magical! I couldn’t get enough of his humorous observations and nighttime antics! I almost didn’t listen to this because of the sci-fi label-but it was more whimsy than sci-fi and I loved it!

Entertaining & fast-paced
Revisado: 02-19-23
Nora Roberts is my go-to author. Her characters are always well developed and believable. I thought the premise was believable and highly entertaining-even if the depth of the relationships progressed too quickly to be realistic. I loved the wander-lust of the main character and as situations intensified, so did my interest. I not only listened to this on the road trip -but also listened when I was home doing chores or out running errands. A perfect choice for easy and entertaining dive into the mysterious world of Faberge!

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Like Bees to Honey…
Revisado: 12-24-22
You’ll be drawn into this book from the opening chapter. Written in current time and flashbacks, along with fascinating descriptions of a bees, beekeeping and honey, Picoult keeps us guessing through the entire book. This is a multi-layered look at relationships and the masks we wear to keep ourselves safe & sane. Also, a reminder to Mom’s everywhere that there is no way to know everything that goes on in the lives and minds of our children! The performance of the narrator’s was a bit monotone -especially Lily’s & I found myself forwarding the chapters by 15 or 30 seconds to avoid becoming bored or sleepy… it was effective in creating a sort of “gray & dreary” pall over Lily’s flashbacks. I did not see the plot twist at the end, which made me say OMG outloud in my car!
I’m a new fan of Jodi Picoult

The characters in the story are well developed and I really liked the voices. There were several times when I fast forwarded especially in his address to the Joint Session. I did like the story and thought about how relevant it is to today.

Timeless stories woven together masterfully
Revisado: 11-02-21
This story alternates between the late 1800’s and mid 1980’s in a gripping adventure detailing the thin line between the Haves and the Have-nots. Striking detail of the golden age transports the reader to the carriage rides, sweeping horizons, and maze of hallways, staircases and rooms where secrets are hidden. Filled with several plot twists-some more predictable than others- the book was exciting and fast-paced. The performance was exceptional; a pleasure to listen to!

Historia
Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town, dubbed “The Lost Village”, since she was a little girl. In 1959, her grandmother’s entire family disappeared in this mysterious tragedy, and ever since, the unanswered questions surrounding the only two people who were left - a woman stoned to death in the town center and an abandoned newborn - have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of friends in the remote village to make a film about what really happened.

All I can say is WOW! Each word, sentence, paragraph and chapter threaded to weave a tapestry of multiple stories over multiple decades. I appreciate that each character was flawed like the artwork in this story but was still beautiful! This was also the first book I’ve listened to by Lisa Flanagan-who in her own right, a beautiful artist. Could not stop listening!
