I couldn’t finish this
Revisado: 12-28-24
Where to start! How did this book get so many good reviews!! I have no idea. The characters were stereotypes there were so many holes in the plot that just made no sense. No thought was given to how long it takes to travel. And on and on. I gave it 5 hours while on a long road trip but I just couldn’t listen anymore

"Karen" goes to space and kinda solves a crime
Revisado: 05-02-23
If you enjoy books about entitled people acting entitled while also allegedly being inclusive this is your book. The main character, Tesla, continuously treats people as if they are inferior or not as smart as her. Her Attorney, who is also a lady and not remotely like any attorney I know, (and I AM an attorney!) is even worse. The Attorney only enables Tesla to act more entitled and insults and demeans every other character. Tesla in typical Karen form routinely asks for the "manager" when she doesn't get the answer she wants. It's funny that in the book notes the author comments proudly about inclusivity. However, when she attempts to voice a "Jamaican" character, it is done in a totally stereotypical fashion but when she does a poor job voicing an Irish accent she acknowledges that it is a poor and stereotypical accent. I will have to assume that no Jamaican was asked to see if the accent was a caricature.
If you can ignore/like the items described above, then buy this book. I did actually finish the book but I doubt I'd buy/listen to another book by this author.

Historia
In the far reaches of the solar system, the outer planets - billions of miles from Earth, unknown for millennia - are being settled. Neptune, the ice giant, is swathed in clouds of hydrogen, helium, and methane and circled by rings of rock and dust. Three years ago, Ilona Magyr’s father, Miklos, disappeared while exploring the seas of Neptune. Everyone believes he is dead - crushed, frozen, or boiled alive in Neptune’s turbulent seas.

A little choppy but solid
Revisado: 01-04-22
So this book is a bit choppy. It takes a few leaps without adequately explaining. Perhaps some of the leaps were explained in book 1?? I disagree with reviews saying its a feminist book. I believe that criticism is unwarranted. One of the characters is a misogynistic man and the story is told from the woman's perspective. She HAS to say how she feels.
Is it a great book, no. Is it a good book that had me wanting to read book 3, YES!!!

Must be a new Author
Revisado: 01-02-19
I liked the story premise but the writing and editing were poor. There could’ve been much better character development. As a result of the poor character development the book read like an abridged version of a book. Honestly on several occasions I just stopped listening and contemplated returning the book but I kept on hanging in there. It wasn’t worth it.

It was like an abridged story!
Revisado: 10-08-16
The premise of this book was very good and grabbed my interest. However this book was like an outline. It lacked narrative detail. Rather than painting a scene, it just jumped you into the scene. This concept could have been 5 stars if it was written by the likes of a Greeney or even a Brad Thor even though I don't particularly care for Thor.
overall it was okay I just wish the book had fleshed out the details of the scenes far more. As my title states, this read like and abridged story.

Historia
For most people, the story of their lives is just that: the accumulation of time, encounters, and actions into a cohesive whole. But for an unfortunate few, that day-to-day existence is affected - perhaps infected is a better word - by memetic incursion: where fairy tale narratives become reality, often with disastrous results.

Potential lost
Revisado: 02-19-16
I really thought the premise for this book was interesting but I was just unable to connect or care about any of the characters. They were rather flat and one dimensional. They lacked depth. In one part the the book the author attempted to switch back and forth from different characters perspectives. The attempt, while an interesting attempt failed to add anything to the story telling. This concept could have been amusing if written by Scott Meyer or deeper if written by Marissa Meyer but just fell flat with this author. I won't be buying the next in the series
