I liked the original storyline. I didn’t like how the main character was encouraged to start a new life and fall in love and remarry. It was presented as the ultimate goal she could achieve. It felt stilted and inauthentic.

Don’t think I can finish the book

The book is a brilliant history about Vietnam nurses. My mother was a WW2 RN. She could run circles around other nurses and she was not in a combat situation during her service. I am bogging down in the book as Frannie is trying to work as a nurse after Vietnam. She was given no respect for her experience. Plus dealing with the culture of the time - antiwar and people thinking no women served in this war. No one understood flashbacks and PTSD. I have no doubt this was the experience for many returning female vets.

I thought it looked like a unique plot at the beginning of this series. First book wasn’t bad. This one seems to be bogging down. Throw in the occasional mispronounced word and I cannot take it anymore.

Bare detail book proposal. DS phoned it in!

The start reads like a rudimentary book proposal. A LOT of repetitive info. This should have been edited and simplified. I feel ripped off just from the beginning. DS phoned this one in. Maybe she should come up with story ideas & someone else writes it.

Problems with the recording at about chapter 50.

Elizabeth Moon - maybe. Jennifer Van Dyck - not if I can help it. I wish Audible would allow you to block an author or narrator if you don't like them. Kind of like blocking a phone number only here a narrator.

Anyone. I am usually not picky.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Cannot remember. I read it years ago, liked the series, and decided to buy all three books in the series and enjoy them again. After I discovered how much I don't like this narrator I didn't even attempt to listen to this book.
