Historia
Ever since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life—what she wore, what she ate, what she thought—was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. At 19, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. For the next 23 years, her marriage would rule her life. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point.

Julia is Delusional

C’mon man… this gig is up. This book is not aging well. Please Julia, go away now. PS. The shorty shorts are super silly.

Historia
In 1958, 19-year-old Charlie Starkweather went on a murder spree that paralyzed Nebraska, shocked the nation, and left 11 people dead. With him when he was captured was his 14-year-old ex-girlfriend Caril Fugate. The question soon arose: Was Caril a kidnapped victim or a heartless accomplice? Up against incredible odds, and with a strong conviction of her innocence, John McArthur remained with Caril and fought for her freedom for 18 years. For this service, he took no pay, accepting the case pro bono.

Fascinating subject, poor recording
Revisado: 02-22-23
The subject matter is fascinating and the book is compelling. The recording is problematic, however. Not all writers are good speakers, just as all good speakers are not good singers. Additionally, the recording has a constant echo and static as if the reader has his lips against the microphone. It needed some sound editing or a professional reader. Sentences are frequently repeated. Unfortunately this is probably better as a print read.
