A year has passed since LAPD detective Renée Ballard quit the force in the face of misogyny, demoralization, and endless red tape. But after the chief of police himself tells her she can write her own ticket within the department, Ballard takes back her badge, leaving “the Late Show” to rebuild and lead the cold case unit at the elite Robbery-Homicide Division.

The Future Liés Ahead
Revisado: 02-19-23
Lugubrious, long-winded - Why write one line of dialogue when you can write 100? Nothing succeeds like excess. Harlan Coben uses a sledgehammer instead of a pen- or perhaps if he had actually had to write with a pen instead of a computer, there would have been some semblance of a story to read. The only way I was able to get through this twisting and turning tome was by "fast forwarding" the audio. With its contrived and improbable ending, "The Innocent" is the epitome of melodramatic drivel. Pity, some good ideas.

Jack investigates—against the warnings of the police and his own editor—and makes a shocking discovery that connects the crime to other mysterious deaths across the country. Undetected by law enforcement, a vicious killer has been hunting women, using genetic data to select and stalk his targets.

Fair Warning – almost perfect
Revisado: 11-30-22
“Fair Warning” is an audio page turner. It’s probably one of Michael Connolly’s best stories to date -except for one fatal flaw... the dialogue and story is underscored with music and sound effects so horrendously distracting I can only compare it to fingernails, clawing down a blackboard. If the acting, and the story weren’t so incredible, I would’ve stopped early on. As I said, “this is a page turner.” However, the The producer, and director should be relegated to the trash bin for their lack of sensitivity - not only to the actors, but to the poor audience, who has to struggle through this nightmare of background clutter.

Do Not Judge a Book By It’s Cover
Revisado: 11-30-21
I was very disappointed. This is a crime novel in need of some judicious editing- the story is very long-winded, filled with exposition & takes forever to get going. Every time the plot would start to build momentum one of the characters would go off on a lugubrious tangent. This narrative does not reflect the best and John Grisham I am sorry to say.

Historia
A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway. She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup’s victims whose remains were never found. Writer David Thorne still hasn’t recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her. Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost. But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily.

Which Emily is real?
Revisado: 05-03-21
The story starts out with a good hook and keeps you engaged through the first third of the story. As a horrific sci-fi genre emerges, however, the willing suspension of disbelief, over writing, and a meandering plot in search of a focus, stretches credulity and interest. I only wish when Davie went to kiss Emily at the very end. When he reached up to bring her face towards him, he would have felt a metal button on the back of her head.
