Historia
Megan Barnes' life is in free fall. After losing both her job as a reporter and her boyfriend in the same day, she retreats to Chicago and moves in with Helen, her overprotective mother. Before long, the two are clashing over everything, not to mention Helen's run for US Congress, which puts Megan's career on hold until after the election. Desperate to reboot her life, Megan gets her chance when an altercation at a campus rally brings her face-to-face with Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist Jocelyn Jones, who offers her a job on her PR team.

Memoir Themes Throughout Novel!
Revisado: 01-23-24
I enjoyed this novel and I am hoping for a sequel. If you read the author’s memoir, you’ll notice many similar themes. Every time I noticed a new one, I wanted to take a shot to reward myself! Making the connection between the author and the character made listening to the book even more enjoyable. This book has romance, mystery, and social justice elements woven throughout the book. One disclaimer: conservatives will probably find this book too liberal for their liking. Also, listen to the audio sample before using a credit because the narration may be a bit irritating to many. The reader’s pitch was too high for my liking but it wasn’t enough for me to stop listening.

Lacks Cohesion & Leaves Loose Ends
Revisado: 04-21-23
I read Burst for a book club. The story is about the relationship between an alcoholic mother and her daughter. I loved the characters, but the story fell flat. Many questions remain to be answered. Considering the storyline, I should have cried reading this book! I didn’t. This is a first for me. The book needs to be polished. There was so much potential with this book. I’m so sad this book fell short.

Historia
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

The Guncle is a breath of fresh air!
Revisado: 10-23-22
I absolutely loved the main character, Patrick. He’s witty, charming, loving, and vulnerable. I laughed out loud several times while listening to this book. The story is sweet and touching. This book is the perfect balance of comedy and gravity. The minor criticisms would be Patrick’s voice is hard to distinguish from other male characters and Patrick’s use of profanity with his niece and nephew could have been toned down a bit.

Absolutely Fantastic Read
Revisado: 09-26-21
I enjoyed this book so much. I couldn’t stop listening. The author did a fabulous job capturing Piper’s reality. I loved how the chapters switched from past to present, while slowly unraveling Piper’s truth.

Historia
For cynical 23-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.

Thrown Together Plot
Revisado: 09-25-21
There’s several plot issues with this book. First of all, the author uses too many coincidences to make the plot happen. Several parts about the main character was dropped throughout the book to make the plot work. For example, college is forgotten until the end. August skips work for three weeks. Noodle is mentioned only once at the end. Parts are over written, while transitions to different settings are lacking! I love the characters and parts of the plot are okay, but this book read like a rough draft. The book had potential, but the author missed the mark.
