Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

Interesting, Exciting, & Somewhat Disappointing
Revisado: 08-07-23
All A.T. stories are interesting to me, and this one did not disappoint in that way.
There were a plethora of exciting moments in the story, which is why I listened to the entire book in less than a day on a long roadtrip.
It was disappointing only in that they gave up within a couple hundred miles of Katahdin. I wonder if either the author or his unlikely hiking partner ever went back to grab the victory at the northern end of this great hike.
Still, the story, while ultimately disappointing, was very, very inspiring and demonstrates that anybody can go for and achieve what others say is impossible.
Keep hiking!

Historia
In February 2013 I gave a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. Standing a few feet from President Obama, I warned my fellow citizens of the dangers facing our country and called for a return to the principles that made America great. Many Americans heard and responded, but our nation’s decline has continued. Today the danger is greater than ever before, and I have never shared a more urgent message than I do now.

One of my favorite authors...
Revisado: 02-24-23
...and for good reason. Been Carson, MD, has the uncanny ability to put complex subject matters into simple, everyday language. One quote, that was given to me decades ago came to mind several times throughout this book: "I would die for the liberty that I have enjoyed, which someone else has died for and purchased in my behalf." This idea was again confirmed in the last chapter.
Another thought that Dr. Carson iterated is that we Americans must stand against 'political correctness,' which is in reality a misnomer because it is incorrect and can be fairly easily dismantled with truth and logic.
Let us follow the logic so eloquently given us by one of the best authors and orators of our time, Ben Carson, MD.

A Dream. A Story. Many Lessons.
Revisado: 12-13-22
I've dreamed of hiking the AP for many years. This story gets me another step closer to actually realizing that dream.
The author tells of the heights of elation in the victories, and the despair of heartbreaks and challenges in both the Hike and life.
There narrator speaks very clearly but it seems that he broke the story up into individual sentences as if they were each an individual story. I listened to this story at 1.1x speed and it worked well.
You will enjoy the story and be encouraged, whether you intend to hike the AP or just like a good memoir.

Historia
In 2003, software engineer David Miller left his job, family, and friends to hike 2,172 miles of the Appalachian Trail. AWOL on the Appalachian Trail is Miller’s account of this thru-hike from Georgia to Maine. Listeners are treated to rich descriptions of the Appalachian Mountains, the isolation and reverie, the inspiration that fueled his quest, and the rewards of taking a less conventional path through life. While this book abounds with introspection and perseverance, it also provides useful passages about hiking gear and planning.

This hike has been...

...on my dream list for many, many years. I have a few things yet ahead of through-hiking the A.T., which means I will little be 65 when I take it. The author's accounts of his experiences serves as much as an inspirational message as it does educational.
I truly enjoyed listening to this story at 1.3x speed, as any slower may have put me to sleep because the narrator's voice is rather dry while at the same time descriptively toned just enough to cause me to want, like the author, for the story to be perpetuated while leaving the challenges behind.

Historia
Consistency is the baseline skill that unleashes all the others. Until this skill is mastered, true potential is never realized. Yet most people struggle to keep up any kind of consistent effort, especially when it comes to building their network marketing business. George Campbell readily admits for most of his life he had obvious talent and potential and yet, was infuriatingly inconsistent. Jim Packard on the other hand, is a man with an unbroken string of successes, in his personal life and in business. It is with their two perspectives that they share The Consistency Chain.

Historia
Congressman Ken Buck (R-CO) is blowing the whistle on the real-life House of Cards going on behind the scenes in our nation's capital. Elected in 2014 as president of one of the largest Republican freshman classes ever to enter Congress, Buck quickly realized why nothing gets done in Congress, and it isn't because of political gridlock - in fact, Republicans and Democrats work together all too well to fleece taxpayers and plunge America deeper into debt.

Although this story...
Revisado: 05-13-21
...doesn't actually mimic what we've seen in the USA, one can easily make correlations between the happenings in Animal Farm and real-life political tactics.
To me, this story is not necessarily suggesting that these sorts of twists and turns are happening exactly as suggested but, instead, serves as a literary warning that every citizen of every society in which there is a politicised government should, no, MUST, seek to learn the true history and never trust the recording of that history to just a few people or even a few small groups. Learn the true history of wherever you call home; record it for yourself and store those records so that you are able to refer to them at will. Only then will the "Pigs" be prevented from gaining/usurping absolute power.
