Historia
The second novel in the wildly popular First Law Trilogy from New York Times best seller Joe Abercrombie. Superior Glokta has a problem. How do you defend a city surrounded by enemies and riddled with traitors, when your allies can by no means be trusted, and your predecessor vanished without a trace? It's enough to make a torturer want to run - if he could even walk without a stick. Northmen have spilled over the border of Angland and are spreading fire and death across the frozen country. Crown Prince Ladisla is poised to drive them back and win undying glory.

Historia
2020 has been a year of change. From the pandemic to the presidential election, it’s clear that the world will never be the same after this year – and neither will all of us who experienced it. In the season finale, Bill and Rashida explore how progress hinges on society’s ability to evolve, how our view of the world shifts as we get older, and whether it’s actually possible to change someone’s mind. Then they’re joined by two people who are using their positions as artists to change the world for the better: Bono and Kerry Washington.

Great podcast series; extremely weak episode
Revisado: 01-17-21
I've found every other episode of this podcast to range from good to great; I think that Rashida is an excellent interviewer (with a great voice) and does a very good job most of the time. I find Bill to be brilliant and I admire his ability to see and try to empathize with both sides of an argument. The Bono interview in this saved the episode; however, the rest of it was self-indulgent and weak. What really disappointed me the most was the lack of self-reflection by Rashida (and somewhat by Bill) in terms of understanding the large minority of people who disagree with their positions. That of course is very difficult if you don't have guests on who can talk about a different perspective. However, if you are reading this, I encourage you to listen to this podcast series regardless of your belief system - it's intelligent and well-done and will help you understand some of the "big questions" better if you put your mind to it.

Historia
Benjamin Franklin is the founding father who winks at us - an ambitious urban entrepreneur who rose up the social ladder, from leather-aproned shopkeeper to dining with kings. In best-selling author Walter Isaacson's vivid and witty full-scale biography, we discover why Franklin turns to us from history's stage with eyes that twinkle from behind his new-fangled spectacles. In Benjamin Franklin, Isaacson shows how Franklin defines both his own time and ours. The most interesting thing that Franklin invented, and continually reinvented, was himself.

Franklin Was Incredible; This Biography Only Good
Revisado: 01-17-18
Summary: Only an average effort by Isaacson and a disappointment for those that seek the same depth and understanding of Franklin that Isaacson provided for Jobs, Einstein, and others. If you don't know much about Franklin this is a good book to which to listen and/or read; however, if you like many have been exposed to Franklin in the past then this is not worth your time.
Benjamin Franklin the polymath is an incredible historical figure whose accomplishments in politics, science, natural philosophy are astounding. Walter Isaacson is one of our best biographers and has done outstanding work shining a bright light in the assessment of many famous people. Unfortunately, "Benjamin Franklin: An American Life" doesn't rise above the very high bar that Isaacson has set with his other work.
Is this because Franklin is so well known that much of what Isaacson presents is rehashed? I think so. Where Isaacson shines in this biography is detailing Franklin's poor treatment of most of his family and Franklin's pragmatism toward the issue of slavery. These elevate the book from an average to an above average biography - despite the well-trod nature of most of the other aspects of Franklin's life.

Historia
In his bravest and most challenging book yet, Seth Godin shows how we can thrive in an economy that rewards art, not compliance. He explains why true innovators focus on trust, remarkability, leadership, and stories that spread. And he makes a passionate argument for why you should be treating your work as art. Art is not a gene or a specific talent. It's an attitude, available to anyone who has a vision that others don't, and the guts to do something about it.

Excellent Book, Excellent Reading
Revisado: 12-13-13
If you could sum up Agent to the Stars in three words, what would they be?
Summing up in three words: Sarcastic. Heartfelt. Powerful.
What did you like best about this story?
The conflict between the author's normal sarcastic voice and the unexpected introduction of a deeply heartfelt plot resonated strongly with me.
What about Wil Wheaton’s performance did you like?
What did it I like? There's nothing to dislike; he did an incredible job.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My extreme reaction was enjoyment - and maybe a tear or two at the end.
