wow! IN SEARCH OF BLACK HISTORY contains eight chapters/episodes of accessible, engaging, sophisticated Black history since early human history. from racist Enlightenment thinkers to the Haitian Revolution to oft-overlooked civil rights activist Pauli Murray, I wish that I could assign parts of this to my high school students. I cancelled my Audible subscription, but this Audible freebie ALMOST makes me want to resubscribe.

5 star unreliable narrator sociopath in second-person

unreliable narrator sociopath Joe Goldberg tells story of stalking female protagonist Beck in second-person. Joe is a bookstore clerk, & Beck is MFA candidate at The New School. takes place in NYC w/ a trip to Rhode Island. re-read via Audible by Santino Fontana🔥🔥🔥one of the best narrations that I’ve heard. why do I love this enough to watch twice, read the physical book, & now listen to the audiobook? the narration is compelling, creepy, & hilarious, w/ smart societal commentary even from a predator-sociopath. bookstore + grad student = even better.

I read this book to understand my mom’s struggle better. I related to the perfectionist parts. unfortunately, I can’t get past the point that Scarlet O’Hara & the actress who played her were the author’s role model(s) — I think she needs new, less racist heroes.

Audiobook is ideal for On the Come Up

I didn’t know how On the Come Up by Angie Thomas could follow The Hate U Give by the same author. But it was just different enough w/ added nuances + subtle mentions of characters like a sequel. both take place in the same setting, & I listened to both narrated by Bahni Turpin. audiobook was ideal for this one owing to the music component 🎧

Wishful Drinking is an engaging, good-humored, & vulnerable account of some unusual horrors that Carrie Fisher endured. I listened to the 3hr Audible narration, which was narrated by the author & saturated w/ comedy.
