Graham Hancock's multi-million bestseller Fingerprints of the Gods remains an astonishing, deeply controversial, wide-ranging investigation of the mysteries of our past and the evidence for Earth's lost civilization. Twenty years on, Hancock returns with the sequel to his seminal work filled with completely new scientific and archaeological evidence, which has only recently come to light.

A Sane Through Discussion
Revisado: 03-07-23
Of a vital topic. Right or wrong, and probably more right than wrong, Graham Hancock should be taken seriously by academics and government bureaucrats but probably, sadly, won’t be. This is NOT a parallel or an aligned discussion with the Ancient Alien theorists.

The Law was originally published as a pamphlet in French in 1850 by Frederic Bastiat. It is his most famous work and was written two years after the third French Revolution of 1848. It defines, through development, a just system of laws and then demonstrates how such law facilitates a free society. Bastiat was a French classical liberal theorist, political economist, and member of the French assembly.

Performance Ruined this Book
Revisado: 06-20-19
Bastiat was obviously a brilliant thinker for his age and a must read for our age; however, best to skip this rendition as the reader added inflections and a odd cadence that made the book unlistenable to me. Getting a different edition after I return this one.

Performance Didn't Catch Whitman's Sentiment
Revisado: 10-14-18
While listening to this performance, I had to wonder if the narrator understood or had even read Whitman's great masterpiece. If he had, he certainly wasn't channeling Whitman in his performance. His moribund, woeful interpretation does not match Whitman's soaring epic's intent.

A Great Second Book in the Jackaby Series
Revisado: 09-18-18
My teen was assigned the first book, Jackaby, to read and he loved it. Needing something different to listen to, I bought the Audible and am now a 71 year old Jackaby fan, and I'm not a big fantasy fan in general. Nicola Barber's narration was wonderful and brought all the Jacoby books alive. I've now purchased all the other Jackaby books and stories.

Nice Story, but Not Extraordinary
Revisado: 08-12-18
This is a nice story about the life and success of a son of an immigrant. In America there are millions of such stories and this one, although interesting to a point, isn't really exceptional, or at least not enough to merit an account as long as this one is.
Unfortunately, the performance was read as if the story was a children's book being read to 3rd grade class. That said, my teen grandson didn't find the performance as objectionable as I did.

Historia
Since the days of conquistador Hernán Cortés, rumors have circulated about a lost city of immense wealth hidden somewhere in the Honduran interior, called the White City or the Lost City of the Monkey God. Indigenous tribes speak of ancestors who fled there to escape the Spanish invaders, and they warn that anyone who enters this sacred city will fall ill and die.

Great story, but the reading not so much
Revisado: 07-25-18
I lived in the area described in the book, Patuka River, La Mosquitia, for three years in the early '70s, so knew the stories about the Lost White City (of the Monkey God) and a met a few who tried to find it, to no avail. The book, in my opinion, is quite accurate about the region, although it described the Patuka River as one of the most dangerous places in the hemisphere. I didn't find it so, but any remote jungle river is dangerous, of course. I hope the City was found and will be explored and excavated properly.
Unfortunately, the reading was done in a furtive, conspiratorial voice for the entire book even in describing mundane things. Indeed, parts of the story deserved the cloak and dagger voice, but not the whole book.

From planning the psychedelic revolution with Allen Ginsberg, Peggy Hitchcock, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti to discussing Dr. Albert Hoffman's legendary bicycle ride home after the world's first deliberate ingestion of LSD, Timothy Leary's passion affected an entire culture and influenced modern world history. Leary presents his own story with a veritable Who's Who of the '60s and '70s including Jack Kerouac, Charles Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Charles Manson, Aldous Huxley, and G. Gordon Liddy.

A must read for anyone interested in the 60s
Revisado: 10-07-16
Where does Flashbacks rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best and certainly the funniest!
Have you listened to any of Timothy Leary’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, he is or was a very talented raconteur and this effort is no exception.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The story of almost sleeping with Marilyn Monroe is hilarious.
Any additional comments?
Dr. Leary was mostly misunderstood and often vilified by the popular press. He could, of course, be provocative, which he considered an essential role for any "change agent". What few people realize is that Leary probably played an essential role in the downfall of his arch nemesis, President Richard Nixon. Read or listen to Flashbacks to find out how and why.
