Historia
Called in to investigate, DCI Evan Warlow’s team are faced with finding out how and why the body of a struck-off doctor ended up on a lonely beach within sight of Laugharne’s famous boathouse. But this is no innocent victim. This is a man with more enemies than friends. A fact that muddies the waters no end as Warlow unearths more and more of the dead man’s sordid history. Not to mention a long line of suspects.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Sublime
Revisado: 01-23-24
I have loved this book so much that I am on my second re-read. The language, the texture of the prose - rivetting. The complex interweaving of the families/characters - unexpected and constantly interesting. I loved the rich tapestry of Indian culture: it lives in Verghese's prose. This is an author who draws upon the many facets of his experience, interests and life and presents them to the reader with unexpected humour. And the cherry on the top - the author read his own book, giving it resonance and authenticity,.
Thank you Anthony Verghese - I do hope there is another book on its way!
