Historia
"My father had more than 50 children." So begins the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. With her father wanted by the FBI for killing anyone who tried to leave his cult - a radical branch of Mormonism - Anna and her siblings were constantly on the run with the other sister-wives. Often starving and always desperate, the children lived in terror. Even though there were dozens of them together, Anna always felt alone.

beautifully written from the point of view of one of the children: on the run, always working, Raising her many other siblings. no schooling. in and out of Mexico. Always hungry. No rights. slowly finding and belong herself, recovering from the nightmare of her childhood. Learning to forgive.

Plot Twists Aplenty
Revisado: 01-26-24
This story dances merrily along as a river sings its song to the kayakers and fishermen who choose to partake of its delights. A new twist around every corner or a new character emerges or a character displays a hitherto unsuspected, delightful or diabical, side of themselves. I enjoyed the novel although I thought parts of it were a bit of a cliche (can you say, empty nest syndrome? Main character's mom), cops browbeating confessions from suspects, a bestfriend causing trouble with her boyfriend just because she wants to do so. No wonder she (MC) moves out of the country. if you want to know how untangles the spiderweb that her former boyfriend and her lives have become, you'll have to read the book.

awesome! Excellent story & performances
Revisado: 03-29-23
Truly well performed. story involves part of American history many would prefer to forget: the "witch hunt" in Hollywood searching for Communinists. people were ruined for decades for refusing to name other people, mostly innocents this book was about trying to stop the making of a movie deemed dangerous, and the ridiculous lengths FBI agents went to accomplish this and the brave efforts people made to stand up for freedom and independence in film making.

Historia
While running in Central Park, New York Times science writer Damon Ellis crashes—literally—into a story that just might resurrect his career…and change the course of human history. On the face of it, it seems absurd—a small biotech company in Boston called Calypso that claims to have cracked the secret of eternal youth. Surely a hoax. Or is it?

don't get this book if you're not a horror fan
Revisado: 02-21-23
if I arrived at a resort that demanded everyone's phones, even for an all expense paid trip, I'd leave. Red flag. but they don't. well developed horror, didn't like the ending, dint go with the rest of the book. also. didn't appreciate Authors note which I always read. still, if you enjoy horror, enjoy this bloody book. otherwise, pick another.

love any book by Matthew Mather, suspenseful, always keeps you guessing. what is he going to do to the poor characters next? Just when you think they can finally catch a break, take a breath and regroup: Blam! He hits them with the next catastrophe, and off you go with them as them as they solve the next difficulty on their journey. Well worth the read.

Bosch is his usual grating, "what, me follow the rules"?, stand up for the innocent dead relentlessly, self. Renee Balard tries her best to follow the rules as she makes her 5th appearance with Harry., this time in charge of a newly re-formed cold case group. the author keeps us guessing right til the end, and since it's Michael Connelly, expect no fairy tale endings where the good guys always win and nothing bad happens to them.
