I loved the non stop action and the mix of magic into the universe. The author did a wonderful job of making magic both potent and arcane at the same time, with power and limits. Also, I found the main characters, all women, fascinating, especially their forceful dialog. This book had a great plot, a villain named Mother, space battles, a love story, racing, unusual food, all delivered as if it's the natural order of stories. I can't wait for the 2nd book in the series to be published on Audible.

Not Altered Carbon, but good.

What did you like best about The Steel Remains? What did you like least?

The culture is quite alien in this story. I liked the battle scenes, the main characters and their relationships. I was not expecting two of the main characters to be homosexual, and the scenes involved in that were not entertaining. I endured them to see what would happen. Overall it was a good story, but not as interesting as the Altered Carbon series. But I liked it well enough to buy the 2nd book in this series to see how the story develops.

What could Richard K. Morgan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I needed more background to the wars that preceded this storyline

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like Simon's reading and character interpretations.

The hard sci fi in 13 and Altered Carbon are better than this line of fantasy story.
