Historia
On 8 June 218 AD, a fourteen-year-old Syrian boy, egged on by his grandmother, led an army to battle in a Roman civil war. Against all expectations, he was victorious. Varius Avitus Bassianus, known to the modern world as Heliogabalus, was proclaimed emperor. The next four years were to be the strangest in the history of the empire.

History is in the eye of the writer(s)
Revisado: 12-25-23
the author has to deal with the subjective nature of historians and their subject, a deposed Emperor. When history becomes political narrative, it becomes a trope with completely different meanings as politics and culture changes. The author does a good job of emphasizing the relationship between reader, writer and culture.

Important social Sci Fi.
Revisado: 06-28-22
While intentionally out of context and thereby confusing at first, the slow piecing together of this utopia along with 4th and possible 5th wall intrusions makes for a dizzying edifice that will be all the more impactful when it is meticulously crumbled. Add in the deliberate juxtaposition of great literature..... well, read it.

What if you could re-spawn like in a video game?
Revisado: 02-07-22
while the idea might seem silly what if we were in a simulation in a video game one where you could re-spawn? now imagine people being creative with this idea as humans do.

Historia
The long years of near-utopia have come to an abrupt end. Peace and order are now figments of the past. Corruption, deception, and insurgency hum within the once steadfast leadership of the Hives, nations without fixed location. The heartbreaking truth is that for decades, even centuries, the leaders of the great Hives bought the world's stability with a trickle of secret murders, mathematically planned. So that no faction could ever dominate. So that the balance held.

Historia
In AD 90, following the Saturninus revolt in Germany, the emperor Domitian has become more paranoid about traitors and dissenters around him. This leads to several senators and even provincial governors facing charges and being executed for supposed crimes of conspiracy and insulting the emperor. Wanting to root out all the supports of Saturninus from the Senate, one of Domitian's men offers to hire Flavia Alba to do some intelligence work.

Albia hits her stride here.
Revisado: 04-09-21
I've felt that the Albia character has been awkward, not fully confident and not quite her own person until this book.

Historia
In the conclusion of the Poseidon's Children saga, the Akinya family receives an invitation from across the stars - and a last opportunity to redeem their name.... "Send Ndege". The cryptic message originated 70 light-years away from the planet Crucible, where Ndege Akinya lives under permanent house arrest for her role in the catastrophe that killed 417,000 people. Could it be from her mother, Chiku, who vanished during a space expedition decades earlier?

Revisado: 03-02-16
The first two are great, introducing great ideas but the third feels like filler.
