Historia
When a years-long case against a powerful mobster finally cracks and an unimpeachable witness takes the stand, federal prosecutor Nora Carleton is looking forward to putting the defendant away for good. The mobster, though, has other plans. As the witness's testimony concludes, a note is passed to the prosecution offering up information into the assassination of a disgraced former New York governor, murdered in his penthouse apartment just days before. It's enough to blow the case wide open, and to send Nora into a high-stakes investigation of conspiracy, corruption, and danger.

When is enough, enough? When will equality really come? C Blow suggestion to move South make sense. A power revolution thru political numbers. 400 years is enough, throw out “just be patient “ and garner the votes to truly make a difference. At 74 I don’t think I’ll live to see it happen. But I think this is the best path to equality. Mr Blow is NYT best columnist.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Caste is a better description of racism
Revisado: 03-22-21
Very literate history of racism and why it continues especially in US. I’ve read the book and listened to audiobook. She put into words feelings and thoughts that I’ve had but couldn’t explain. This is the best book on why racism continues at a low level of consciousness in at least of half of white Americans. Caste should be required reading in elementary and secondary schools.

Historia
Author David Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. Brooks looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.

Seemingly confusing but so is life
Revisado: 08-17-19
This story has a lot of moving parts. Author wrote his best work. I read most of NYT opinion, mostly find them helpful in understanding life. This book takes my understanding to a new level. I purchased a couple books of recommended as I was reading this one. I take that as a compliment to author. He synthesizes a lot of people’s work and quotes them often. Because of this I will have to read book again.
As a 73 yo male I appreciate his use of genders throughout the work. It helps to make the work accessible. Both my sister and my wife loved the book.

Caught in the middle.
Revisado: 05-05-18
Dealing with a subject (Trump) who is the very definition of “fake news progenitor ” it’s amazing that author presents a somewhat balanced portrayal. I loved his early examples of leadership. His descriptions of government department heads are of usually generously written. His explanation of various investigations shows a thoughtful process that helps explain why decisions were made. Author exhibits what all Americans want from government employees.

Historia
Moonglow unfolds as the deathbed confession, made to his grandson, of a man the narrator refers to only as "my grandfather". It is a tale of madness, of war and adventure, of sex and desire and ordinary love, of existential doubt and model rocketry, of the shining aspirations and demonic underpinnings of American technological accomplishment at midcentury, and, above all, of the destructive impact - and the creative power - of the keeping of secrets and the telling of lies.
