Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

Skip the first chapter, it's not Moorcock.

Why Sword and Sorcery is a genre.
Revisado: 06-05-22
Let's remember that there were firsts in a lot of fiction, and in this case fantasy. Some will criticize Michael Moorcock for seeming unoriginal or uninspiring, when in fact this is the original trope of the sword legend turned upside-down. The story of a bleak world with a anti-hero protagonist who's hubris may be his undoing, despite his intentions in the grand scheme of things. I like the feel and grittyness of the grimdark world that Moorcock created. A world inspiring an entire subgenre of Fantasy and even paving the multiverse of the RPG genre of games (Namely the many worlds of Dungeons and Dragons), has be encapsulated by the writer. It's dark, gritty, and entirely unexpected...

When sequels are better than the original.

Very well worth the listen. It has a somewhat Tolkienesque formula, without the overtly in depth history lesson. Don't get me wrong, I love the Lord of the Rings series, but I like to enjoy a lighter side of fantasy with a hint of romantic intrigue as well, which this book seems to do well.
