Historia
It was just one date. My friend told me I needed more fun in my life, so I reluctantly said yes. Fun wasn’t exactly in my wheelhouse. After watching my own mother’s love life implode time and time again, it’s only natural that I have a few rules to protect myself. Actually, it’s just one rule: avoid relationships with men so I don’t get attached. This guy was just a warm body in a chair. I was here for the basketball game. I was absolutely NOT here for my date. Or the kiss cam. Or the kiss. Or the impromptu evening with the one man who seems bent on throwing my tidy world off of its axis.

Good quick summer read
Revisado: 07-23-24
Nice clean summer romance read. Would make a good Hallmark movie. Reader’s “male” voice sometimes made character seem creepy though.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Great story, excellent narration
Revisado: 12-29-20
This was a very enjoyable story and the narrator did a great job with a southern accent without overdoing it or making it hard to understand. The author worded violent acts delicately without taking away from the story which made listening to it around children possible. It seemed historically sound except one item of timeline which was well explained and understandable in the author's closing notes. Fascinating story with relevance even today.

Great story. Not great male voices.
Revisado: 12-14-20
The story was the expected sweet love story, and while predictable, that's sometimes just the story you can sit back and enjoy without having to think too hard or concentrate on names/places too much. However, while the narrator did a great job with various women's voices, I couldn't get past the way she read the male voices. For most of the book I thought one of the main male characters was an old man. (I later realize he is supposed to be 30 years old.) While he is portrayed as older and wiser than his years, he was given a grandpa voice. It made it hard to feel any connection between the characters because of that.
