Historia
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

This book introduced me into the world of Lisa Marie Presley in a way I never knew I would miss so much when it was over.
Revisado: 10-14-24
What a story. What a life. I dearly love the way Riley and Lisa decided to tell their story…together. You can literally feel their bond while listening. Lisa Marie was a force. She was a devoted mother who genuinely tried to outrun her grief and turn her pain into power. I would say she was successful for as long as she could be. This is a love story about family, and the true grit it takes everyday to try and survive tragedy.

Historia
Meghan Riordan Jarvis lived a charmed childhood with her large Irish-Catholic family: loving parents, a house full of siblings, a top-tier education, and summers on Cape Cod. And yet, loss was part of her story from the beginning. In therapy in her 20s after a break-up, Meghan discovered how the silence surrounding a childhood tragedy had laid the groundwork for a life spent trying to keep other people happy and avoiding any type of risk, including love. End of the Hour is for anyone who has experienced the unpredictable, lasting power of grief—and wondered how they’d ever get through it.

A Fatherless Daughter’s Journey to Finding Herself
Revisado: 10-24-23
I am currently listening to @jadapinkettsmith book, “WORTHY.” I have so many thoughts and feelings about her story. The first one is gratitude. It is not easy to write a story like this, and quite honestly, I don’t think she could have written this book before now. My takeaway is obviously from that of a fellow fatherless daughter’s stance. It is that pain and trauma can hide so well, for so long, that you can convince others that you don’t have it. Jada, like so many fatherless daughters before her, had to grow up quickly. Because her parents were amid their trauma and diseases, Jada had to strike out alone. Like clockwork, she learned the hallmark coping mechanism of a fatherless daughter: isolation. It is not lost on me that she had to build up outer strength, wear the cape, and forge ahead to find her own way out. Alone. Fear of abandonment will cause FD’s to do crazy things for love. They want it more than anything but have no idea how to keep it. How would they? When the fear of abandonment is imminent, they bolt. When they don’t feel heard or seen, they run. When life gets too complicated, they isolate. If you know, you know. I hope the world will take a beat to hear what she is trying to say. It is important for the 1 in 3 FDs out there to listen to her story. P.S. I once slipped my book (The Fatherless Daughter Project) to a doorman right outside a taping of RTT. I have no idea if she ever actually received it, but I hope if she did, it helped her along her journey.

The First Book to Help Me Really Understand Addiction
Revisado: 11-17-22
This book is raw, very real, and at times- heartbreaking. Mathew shares his soul in every single chapter. He wipes away the vanity of being an actor, and instead, shows the full vulnerability of being an addict. I’m so happy he has finally found the strength to love himself unconditionally. His ultimate desire is to help others. In sharing his story he will do just that. Bravo!

Sibling Revelry is my JAM!
Revisado: 03-12-21
Okay, I know “JAM” shows my age, but it is true. I started following them based on their fatherless journeys. I can relate to who they are, whey they are so close, and their histories. My brother and I are the same and found humor to thrive through it all. Their connection is palpable. They are funny and hell and deep enough to bring the tears. Listen and learn everyone. Goldie, you did a great job Momma!

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

From one author to another
Revisado: 11-02-20
I ordered this book via audible, and Mathew’s voice alone had me writing this review in my head. Not only is he sexy, McConauhey is a natural born storyteller. His stories took me right back to my very own southern childhood with its right of passages, sense of family and dreams born in atop a tree house.
Mathew is hysterically funny, naughty and inspiring. From now on, I will only see Greenlights!

After selling her first novel - a dream she'd worked long and hard for - Stephanie Danler knew she should be happy. Instead, she found herself driven to face the difficult past she'd left behind a decade ago: a mother disabled by years of alcoholism, further handicapped by a tragic brain aneurysm; a father who abandoned the family when she was three, now a meth addict in and out of recovery.

Revisado: 05-31-20
Any book about family dynamics pulls me in, but Stray stopped me in my tracks. The dance of the author and her father’s severed relationship is one I have also had to navigate. @smdanler did it beautifully. This book is imperfectly perfect. A must read.
