Just an okay Anna Pigeon story
Revisado: 08-14-18
As usual Barbara Rosenblatt does a good job of reading the story. However, the story itself wasn't great. I'm not sure why Nevada Barr made the turn in her books that center on such horrific happenings in her stories. Obviously, because of the nature of the stories, there's always murder and/or violence but the last several books have delved into very dark stuff. This one was no different. I find it takes away from my enjoyment of Ranger Pigeon. I don't care that there is violence. I'm not a pacifist but it's like Anna Pigeon must devolve into some animalistic dehumanized beast in every book now. She's always being treated for PTSD or on administrative leave while her violent actions are being investigated. I much preferred when Anna used her intellect to move the story forward with an occasional arse kicking when needed. If you like the series, you might as well go ahead and listen to it but if you'te anything like me, you can skip whole chapters and not really miss anything important to the story.

A light hearted mystery with an excellent narrator. The story dragged a little here and there but overall, an entertaining listen.

Moving from Boston to remote Bearkill, Maine, isn't homicide cop Lizzie Snow's idea of a step up. But breaking away from tragedy and personal betrayal is at least a step in the right direction. Better than average Mystery/Thriller
Revisado: 03-21-16
This is a better than average read/listen. The main character is dimensional and interesting and the story itself rarely lags, as some do. There is a bit of repetitive character motivation but for a first book in a series, this may have been purposeful so we get to know what's behind Lizzie Snow's drive. The narrator does an excellent job. worth the credit to listen.

I've listened to this book several times. George Guidall does a fabulous job, as usual and Daniel Silva doesn't disappoint on the story. Definitely worth the read!

This was absolutely worthless. It's basically a recap of the different "modalities" for stress management (such as yoga, meditation, etc). There is zero actual information.

Historia
Christmas is just weeks away, but what Jacobia Jake Tiptree discovers at Faye Anne Carmody's house is far from festive: a dazed Faye Anne covered with blood. Her no-good husband, Merle--Eastport's butcher and least-liked citizen--is nowhere in sight. Nowhere, that is, until Jake finds his body--wrapped in his own butcher paper. It looks like an open-and-shut case, but Jake isn't convinced. Then another resident turns up dead, and Jake knows the trail doesn't begin--or end--with Merle.

Entertaining few hours
Revisado: 03-20-15
This was an okay listen but not as good as some of the others in the series. There were a lot of facts presented at the end of the "whodunit" that the listener couldn't possibly have known. This book felt like one the author sort of three on for a seasonal (Xmas) read. Still, you gotta love the characters and the narrator does a good job - except for consistently mispronouncing the word "criminy," which drives me nuts. All in all, it's a nice, light read/listen for when you want to escape the drama of your own life. If you like the series, you have to listen to keep track of what's going on in the lives of our friends in Eastport.

Don't waster your credit

Any additional comments?
I was a faithful Patricia Cornwell reader/listener. I think I'm done now though. Like many other reviewers, I've hung on for the last several books waiting for the stories to improve but they haven't. In fact, this one was so rushed in the end that I thought I had a faulty download. I had ten minutes left of the book according to my device and I just KNEW there was no way that everything could get wrapped up in such a short time unless the book was going to be a two parter or cliff hanger. But, as it turns out, there really was only 10 minutes left. Talk about a rushed ending! End result - I'll either skip ahead 5 or 6 books so that I'm listening to her more recent publications to see if she's gotten back to the style that I enjoyed listening to or just drop her altogether. Too many other good reads out there to spend your credit/money on.

Not as good as other Rizzoli & Isles books
Revisado: 02-13-13
Any additional comments?
This was a fairly good listen but not quite as good as previous Rizzoli & Isles books that I've listened to. If you like the series, you have to listen to it to keep up with what is going on in the lives of the characters. But honestly, this one was a little out there with the whole religious/supernatural back story. I don't want to give away anything in the story, but that part of the story becomes the main story line and was just too far fetched to really be interesting for me personally. All in all, it was entertaining and I will continue on to the next R & I book.

Revisado: 08-05-09
I'm a pretty big Daniel Silva fan but, as with all authors, some books are better than others. The Defector has been one of the better ones. It's an enjoyable read/listen. If you've never tried Daniel Silva before, I would recommend reading/listening to The Moscow Rules first as it provides the backstory for The Defector. It will be more enjoyable if you do.

Historia
“In wartime,” Winston Churchill wrote, “truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” For Britain’s counterintelligence operations, this meant finding the unlikeliest agent imaginable - a history professor named Alfred Vicary, handpicked by Churchill himself to expose a highly dangerous, but unknown, traitor. The Nazis, however, have also chosen an unlikely agent.

Creative story but a little rushed in the end
Revisado: 05-06-09
I typically enjoy Daniel Silva's books and I certainly enjoyed this one as well. However, there was a fairly long, drawn out build up to the climax of the story that, in the end, felt rushed. After listening to hours and hours of background, plots and subplots, the climax of the story came so fast that I thought surely I had missed something.
The narrator does an excellent job as usual. I just wish the ending could have been a bit more satisfying.
