Nowhere do startling intrigue and enthralling authenticity come together so powerfully as in the Kali O'Brien thrillers from former attorney Jonnie Jacobs. Now the San Francisco lawyer takes on a case that hits too close to home: the murder of her best friend by a serial killer who steps from the very pages of Kali's own past....

Another great combo by Jacobs and Kuch
Revisado: 11-27-15
Any additional comments?
This was my second audiobook written by Jonnie Jacobs and that was also narrated by George Kuch. This is a great combination with a well written story that is executed wonderfully by the narrator. Even thought the main character is female Kuch does it well. I enjoyed the other Jacobs book (The Only Suspect) and was anxious to listen to this one. I was not disappointed with Cold Justice. I enjoy a crime novel that leaves you guessing to the end. Although I had to wait to the end to have my suspicions confirmed I was able to catch on to the author leading the reader down a path that pointed to the wrong person. This is apparently one book in a series but I was able to listen to this book as a stand-alone with no difficulty. I look forward to more books by Jacobs. What made the experience of listening to Deep in Death the most enjoyable?
This audiobook was provided at no cost for an honest review. What I did not realize when choosing this book was that it was 6th in a series. Even though I knew I was missing some details from prior books I had no problem following along. I found this story to be comparable with the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones (a series I have enjoyed) in the use of paranormal abilities, solving mysteries, a handsome 'bad guy', and most similarly, the use of humor. I also really liked the narrator, Wendy King. Her voice is pleasing and you can't help but like the main character. I appreciate a mystery in which you can't figure it out right way, and Deep in Death delivers on this as well. One thing I was somewhat puzzled about was that Shelby seems to really love her husband but she also seems to be somewhat in love with Ramos. I figured something must have happened in previous books that explains this relationship but it struck me as odd in this book. Overall, engaging story that is well written with very good narration.

Historia
It's not often Alex St. James has a story this tantalizing fall into her lap, only to have it snatched away again. As news researcher at Midwest Focus Television in Chicago, she'd been set to interview a young Polish immigrant woman, pregnant by a Catholic priest. When the woman is found murdered, and Alex tries to investigate, her boss abruptly reassigns her to a fluff piece, so he can give the hot murder story to the station owner's nephew. But anyone who knows Alex also knows that, like fate, she'll find a way.

What did you like best about Deadly Blessings: An Alex St. James Mystery? What did you like least?
The subject matter was interesting. Combining the Catholic church with scandal and prostitution, although not unheard of, made for an interesting read. This did not take the typical path of the primary female character and adding a handsome male character and turn it into a story about the relationship. I personally had a hard time with this narrator. It just did not feel like her voice matched Alex, the main character. I was expecting a voice that would be 'younger'. The part in the book that involved the dialogue with the prostitute who was Polish and struggled with English was particularly hard to get through. It is not that I thought the narrator was not good, just not a good fit for this book.

Revisado: 08-16-15
Where does Chasing the Dollar rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have listened to audiobooks that I rated 5 stars (this one four) but I did find it very entertaining and engaging.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The author created a just right tension that keep me listening. Although some parts were somewhat predictable there was enough unknown that I stayed engaged. Where was the relationship between Miranda and Jake going? Was she going to clear her name? The action scenes were also compelling.
Which scene was your favorite?
Romance is one aspect of this story. Although I can't point out a specific scene I really liked how the author developed this relationship. I kept expecting, like so many other books, that the relationship would be fully developed in a chapter or two. Ashe cleverly did not allow that to happen in this book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Without providing any spoilers the part when Miranda left the hospital.

Revisado: 08-08-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Only Suspect to be better than the print version?
Having not read the print version it is hard to gauge but the narrator did a fantastic job so I would surmise that I would enjoy the audiobook better
What did you like best about this story?
Everything! Well written, lots of twists and turns, a mystery that you can't quite figure out but has a believable end, a great narrator, interesting characters, and just an all around good story.
Which scene was your favorite?
Without giving anything away there were several 'reveals' as the mystery started to unravel that I really enjoyed.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reactions but felt it was one of the better audiobooks that I had listened to in awhile.

Revisado: 07-28-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It is not the best story and although I might not recommend it I would not go so far to recommend someone not read it.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
There were several aspects of this story that was distracting: I was pretty sure I had it figured out early on (which I did). Although, sometimes I find a story somewhat more enjoyable to know who the bad guy is to see the turn of events from a different perspective. I felt the attacks were overly gruesome and would have found more emphasis on the psychological nature of the attacks rather than the physical to be more intriguing. The relationship between Rebecca and Pete was odd in that they were married but she seems to always want just about every other man and every man wanted her. The ending was so abrupt and I was left with the thought that all of this build up and just like that, it was over and done.
What does Johnny Peppers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Peppers was the right pick for this book and felt his narration was quite good. I don't think I would have enjoyed the story as much in written form.
Do you think Roulette needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, I felt the story was complete.

Interesting take on the paranormal
Revisado: 07-23-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I thought the story was interesting and well written. Even though you know 'who did it' it is the process of how the others in the story discover 'who did it' that makes this a good read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sense of Death?
How Ann's negative experience led to her discovery of her abilities that she did not know existed. I also liked the final scenes with Bo and the paint can..
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The pace was fine but I enjoy more emotion and inflection rather than a very controlled, succinct style.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could have I probably would as I wanted to see what direction the author was taking this story and what the main characters would do next.

True Crime
Revisado: 07-15-15
What did you love best about Repeat Offender?
With non-fiction the story is what it is. This author obviously knew he had a good story to share and paired up with an excellent narrator, he came up with a winner. Because I work in the criminal justice field I had an appreciation for this story and the resources it took to bring this criminal to justice.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Detective Nickell. Even though Monroe's actions created countless victims, Nickell's perseverance, experience, intelligence, and compassion eliminated future victims and made the Las Vegas community a safer place.
What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?
Everything. Pierce was a perfect narrator for this story. He was convincing with a perfect pace and spot on inflection.

Revisado: 07-12-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book had a slow start so I would prefer to be more engaged earlier on.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
For me it was when the author took you through Reagan's manic stage, her thought processes, and how she viewed the world and her place in it. I have never hiked and I learned some things about hiking that I would have never considered. The least interesting was Reagan's mother's character. This part of the story could have been developed more.
What three words best describe Kate Fisher’s performance?
Steady, flat, with a good Australian accent.
Could you see Reagan's Ashes being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
This could be a "Lifetime" movie.

Bedtime Stories
Revisado: 07-04-15
What did you love best about Fire In My Ears?
This is a book about the stories of a lifetime. We know that the grandmother is telling her life stories to her granddaughter for a a purpose although we don't exactly know the purpose until the end. Just as Sarah, the granddaughter, looked forward to the nightly ritual of the bedtime stories, as the reader I also looked forward to hearing the next chapter
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fire In My Ears?
In the end when Sarah finally figured out the purpose of the stories.
Which character – as performed by Rachel F. Hirsch – was your favorite?
The performance of the narrator did not cause me to favor one character over another but this narrator did a fantastic job. I could not believe how she easily went from an elderly lady with a heavy accent, to a sweet nine year old voice, to the voices of aunts and uncles with a New York accent. A really great performance!
If you could take any character from Fire In My Ears out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Mary because of when and where she was born, where she traveled, her experiences, and her ability to provide a historical perspective of what life was like during her lifetime.
