Historia
Stoneybridge is a small town on the west coast of Ireland where all the families know one another. When Chicky Starr decides to take an old, decaying mansion set high on the cliffs overlooking the windswept Atlantic Ocean and turn it into a restful place for a holiday by the sea, everyone thinks she is crazy. Helped by Rigger (a bad boy turned good who is handy around the house) and Orla, her niece (a whiz at business), Chicky is finally ready to welcome the first guests to Stone House’s big warm kitchen, log fires, and understated elegant bedrooms.

A delightful read told by an enchanting actress.

I enjoyed the various characters, the descriptions of the various characters, the settings, and the way she brought all of the characters together. There’s a lot of heart in the book, and I found it a joy to read.

A wonderful read!
Revisado: 12-10-24
So glad that Harry Abrams finally went to press about himself. He has spoken of writing a book for so long, and while this is not exactly what I was expecting, it’s a wonderful read! Harry is so humble, charming, resilient, caring, and an incredible businessman and human being. You can’t really say that about too many successful men I bet but Harry is all of that and more. It was a joy to read this book and to have Harry’s wisdom in black and white for posterity. Personally, I hope he writes a second book that’s just about his own personal life because Harry Abrams is so interesting, witty, funny, wise, charming, and while much of this is captured, there is even more to be shared and treasured about the one and only, Harry Abrams!

It is such a joy to be able to listen to books. It allows me to get things done and at the same time be transported by talented authors like Jeffrey Archer.
The person reading the story aloud is a delight, but he has an accent that seems inappropriate for this particular book.

Historia
“One of the most unforgettable characters in contemporary literature” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), Eilis Lacey has come of age in small-town Ireland in the hard years following World War Two. When an Irish priest from Brooklyn offers to sponsor Eilis in America, she decides she must go, leaving her fragile mother and her charismatic sister behind. Eilis finds work in a department store on Fulton Street, and when she least expects it, finds love. Tony, who loves the Dodgers and his big Italian family, slowly wins her over with patient charm.

Human frailty
Revisado: 11-08-24
I’ve just re-listen to this story in order to better understand the book that follows, Long Island. It was wonderful to be reacquainted with these characters, but I was very disappointed in the change of character of both Tony and his mother-in-law back in Ireland. I found it strange that Eilish had not gone back to visit her mother in 25 years and also strange that they have not paid for her to come visit them in America. When we do meet Eilish’s mother again she does not resemble the gentle lady we found her to be in this book. l found her dramatic character change unbelievable and unsettling. I was also so disappointed in Tony, his family and how they treated Eilish. Finally, I have to say that unless there is going to be a third installation in the story of these characters, Long Island was unfulfilling in its lack of closure. If however there is definitely going to be a third book, I can forgive the author leaving so much to our imagination.
Brooklyn is a wonderful story and a delight to listen to.

Historia
Eilis Lacey is Irish, married to Tony Fiorello, a plumber and one of four Italian American brothers, all of whom live in neighboring houses on a cul-de-sac in Lindenhurst, Long Island, with their wives and children and Tony’s parents, a huge extended family. It is the spring of 1976 and Eilis is now forty with two teenage children. Though her ties to Ireland remain stronger than those that hold her to her new land and home, she has not returned in decades.

So nice to be back with the people from Brooklyn

Unfortunately, I did not care for the narrators voicing of the mother. I found her to be so hateful that it was hard to enjoy any aspect of her character. I don’t think that was fair to her, the character, or to us, the reader/listener. Yes, I imagine she had become bitter over the decades, but this was excessive.
Tonys actions both surprised me and disappointing me. I never expected him to grow up to be this kind of man.
The relationship, in this book, between between Alish and Nancy was puzzling to me. Perhaps it was necessary for the story but it doesn’t quite ring true to me.
The ending, well, I hope it will not be too long before the next book comes out. So I guess that makes this book effective while at the same time a bit frustrating .
Tóibín is a very lovely author. I enjoy all of his characters, his stories and the places that he creates. It
was lovely to be back in Ireland with everyone from the first book. I was very pleased to read the book/listen to the book, but the disappointing aspects above did take away some of the pleasure.

In which, a 17-year-old apprentice dealer in rare books is sent from Paris to England by her father, to obtain incunabula and medieval books of devotion - and whatever secrets of political intrigue or finance may come to hand in the process. It’s 1914, and World War I is ceaselessly churning through thousands of young men on both sides of the fight. News of the heroic deaths of their friends only makes the war more exciting. A must read
Revisado: 08-08-24
This book was difficult to begin. The subject matter is dark and weighty. But it is worth the push.
The brutality of war is truly depicted in this book brushing away all of the Hollywood and television glamour. It is raw, brutal, and heartbreaking on so many levels that this young author actually captures.
I thought the characters were wonderful. I’ve never met characters like this and I love all the research and information gleaned in order to create this novel. The poetry adds so much to capturing the time and idealism of the people losing their lives in droves, and when I say people, I mean children directed to their death by, forgive me but, idiots set apart from what was really going on and just hurling darts trying to see what would work without any thought to the Tens of thousands of lives they were taking and the generation and future generation their actions without any thought, decimated.

Historia
For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

Thank you for sharing
Revisado: 07-23-24
Demi Moore has always been Portrayed in the public not by who she is or what she does, but mainly by strangers and or biased perceptions. I cannot imagine what that would be like on a global scale. To be judged without someone even knowing you.
None the less I had no intention of reading this book because I felt like there was nothing else to know about Demi Moore. Good grief, she had been in the press enough so I certainly didn’t need to spend money or time reading more about Demi Moore. To be honest, I only listened to her book because it was on sale and I figured what the heck, I will enjoy hearing her and the price was right.
What I learned was that Demi Moore is and really always had to be, a lady of incredible inner strength, drive, heart, bravery, compassion, and talent-that she worked very hard at. There is not a lazy bone in her body, and her ability to create the life she has, she deserves all that she has and my hats off to her.
Demi Moore’s book is worth reading. It should inspire you not to give up, not to look to others to fix you, but rather to fight and no matter what, find a way to believe in yourself so that you can make your life what you want. Granted everyone is not as beautiful, everyone does not have her husky voice, her talent or her eventual wealth, but she could’ve so easily followed in her father‘s footsteps or her mother’s footsteps... she didn’t.
She is self reflective, appreciative, aware, generous in forgiveness and everything else I said above. Now I will add the word inspiring.

Historia
In the late 1950s, in a small New England town, Reverend Tyler Caskey has suffered a terrible loss and finds it hard to be the person he once was. He struggles to find the right words in his sermons and in his conversations with those facing crises of their own, and to bring his five-year-old daughter, Katherine, out of the silence she has observed in the wake of the family’s tragedy. Tyler’s usually patient and kind congregation now questions his leadership and propriety, and accusations are born out of anger and gossip.

Her insights into humanity are deep in remarkable
Revisado: 07-22-24
In someways this was a difficult book to listen to. There were so much struggling and so much of the ugly side of humanity. But it is worth getting through because in the end it does show some of the redeeming aspects of humanity as well.
So I do recommend it and in some ways feel it should be read by children in school so that they think more clearly about what they’re doing.
It is a strange choice to me however that a female was chosen to read this book. I generously gave it four stars in this area because she is talented and gave it her all, but I believe the choice of a female was wrong.
I look forward to reading more Elizabeth Strout books.
