Historia
It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

A Must-Read
Revisado: 05-07-20
This moving story is so powerful and poignant. Although I may not agree with everything I heard reported here, my heart cannot help but cry out for the injustice of our collective loss. This is a must-read for high school students and parents and educators.

social media: intrigue of its time

Although it was required reading for a fiction class, I'm glad it was. Different type of Austen...loved it!

Historia
Kim Miller is an immaculately put-together woman with a great career, a loving boyfriend, and a tidy apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. You would never guess that Kim grew up behind the closed doors of her family’s idyllic Long Island house, navigating between teetering stacks of aging newspapers, broken computers, and boxes upon boxes of unused junk festering in every room - the product of her father’s painful and unending struggle with hoarding. In this moving coming-of-age story, Kim brings to life her rat-infested home and her childhood consumed by concealing her father’s shameful secret from friends.

difficult subject matter
Revisado: 11-03-15
I felt terrible for Kim while also frustrated with her consistent responses to her parents. What an awful situation for a child and an adult to deal with. This is an important story that needs to be told, but it is difficult to hear and experience vicariously.
