Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Dark Places Indeed!
Revisado: 02-10-25
I loved this book. I was highly skeptical about Flynn since reading Gone Girl, as the unreliable author intentionally misleads the reader, but there’s no such issue here! This is what I was waiting for from this author. I love how when the theory, or suspicion changes with real emotion, and for good reason. This was wonderfully engaging, as the plot slowly spirals the reader deeper and deeper into the truth. The performance of this was wonderful as well! I’m so glad it was gripping and brutal. This audiobook really draws you in, with an ending that made me feel ill, and was absolutely the climax the story needed. I’ve read some criticism about the ending, and I whole-heartedly disagree. It’s raw, powerful, nerve-wracking, and real. Thanks for the great story!

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Stunning across the board.
Revisado: 09-04-24
I cannot recommend this book enough. Every person I have told to read this book, both in text and audio formats is completely enthralled by it. It’s been years since I enjoyed a book this much. Thank you James Islington! And thanks to the audiobook producers, editors and everyone who made this possible. The performance of the audiobook was PERFECT too. What a tale!!!

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Historia
Nobody has a “normal” family, but Vesper Wright’s is truly...something else. Vesper left home at eighteen and never looked back—mostly because she was told that leaving the staunchly religious community she grew up in meant she couldn’t return. But then an envelope arrives on her doorstep.

Baa baa boring.
Revisado: 05-07-24
Honestly, I loved the kick off at the beginning. Interesting slice of life with a great concept. Unfortunately, middle part of the book because boring and predictable. It’s just another author playing the same sad song on repeat as every other author. The end? Predictable and lackluster. Honestly, just imagine what a book called “Black Sheep” would be about in todays author climate. Boom, that’s this book. Don’t bother reading.

Historia
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

Someone must have paid for the positive reviews.
Revisado: 10-10-23
The story might have been great if the protagonist was someone people would care about. Unfortunately, she ends up being someone you can’t stand, and is completely unbelievable. What might have been high stakes suspense was cut down by the author attempting to get in their bland sense of humor. She lost me for good when she cared more about grammatical errors than her missing dog. After that I couldn’t help but hope for a gruesome ending for this annoying character.
As far as the audiobook, they slowed down the narrators performance which was a terrible choice. If you play it at 1.2x speed you get an excellent performance. It’s a shame they thought they’d know better than the professional they hired to read this book.
