This was a great read/listen with marvelous links to history. It keeps you wondering and then leaves you wanting more. I felt it ended a bit abruptly, but the ending certain leaves you wanting to move to the next book in the series - heading there now for sure!

Fabulous Twists and Turns in just the right places
Revisado: 04-09-22
This is the best kind of mystery novel - I wanted to believe I had it figured out, getting that (very false) sense of achievement and mentally stepping back a bit waiting for the author to unfold the rest of my ending. But of course it wasn’t my ending and just when I’d started to get the smallest bit of complacency, the twists began and kept coming drawing my mind in with new energy trying, unsuccessfully, to figure it out again. I love when books wrap up most of the loose ends and this one does it quite well too. Another author to add to my list of favorites!!

Resilience defined!
Revisado: 09-24-20
This is an absolutely amazing book and my sincere thanks to the author for her bravery in sharing her lived experience. In many was I think this should be required reading in middle schools, to help students understand that everyone does not come from the same family background, nor do those who do necessarily respond the same way to the circumstances of their lives. Family dynamics are complex even in the ‘best’ of homes without the abuse brought to light in this story. Brava! I hope the author will apply her keen sense of observation to the sharing of other stories of resilience.

Historia
Bhima, the unforgettable main character of Thrity Umrigar’s beloved national best seller, The Space Between Us, returns in this triumphant sequel - a poignant and compelling novel in which the former servant struggles against the circumstances of class and misfortune to forge a new path for herself and her granddaughter in modern India. Poor and illiterate, Bhima had faithfully worked for the Dubash family, an upper-middle-class Parsi household, for more than 20 years.

Revisado: 07-22-20
Brilliant storytelling that draws the reader/listener into the evolution of a culture, class value system and the human heart.
Umrigar played my heartstrings with an eloquence that spoke to soul of a mother, wife, friend, and those determined to survive life’s challenges.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Solid mystery, plenty of twists
Revisado: 10-27-19
Really enjoyable - kept my attention and built to the climax beautifully, showing, not telling, each character’s development. I loved the final twist as the case was solved as well as the remaining loose ends that left me wanting just enough more to go right away and get the next book in the series.

Historia
As she drives her mobile-library van between the villages of Ireland's West Coast, Hanna Casey tries not to think about a lot of things. Like the sophisticated lifestyle she abandoned after finding her husband in bed with another woman. Or that she's back in the rural Irish town she walked away from in her teens, living in the back bedroom of her overbearing mother's retirement bungalow. Or, worse yet, her nagging fear that, as the local librarian and a prominent figure in the community, her failed marriage and ignominious return have made her the focus of gossip.

Revisado: 01-24-18
This was a great story about finding oneself amidst he turmoils of life, love, and family. Very authentic to human nature - not too dreamy eyed but hope enough sprinkled throughout twists and turns to want to know more. I hope this is the beginning of a series!

Historia
Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life--solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes his patient. In response, Marlowe finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver.

enjoyed The Historian. That made me want to find more of Ms. Kostova's work. Brava! Your brilliant writing has a new fan and follower! I will definitely be recommending her books to others as The Historian was recommended to me. The audio version was very well read, giving an additional level of appreciation!

Historia
On Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, the first great revolution of the twentieth century began as working-class men and women occupied buildings throughout Dublin, Ireland, including the general post office on O’Connell Street. Among the commoners in the GPO was a young staff captain of the Irish Volunteers named Michael Collins. He was joined a day later by a fourteen-year-old messenger boy, Eoin Kavanagh.

Fabulous historical fiction!
Revisado: 03-02-16
What a great way to learn history. McEvoy takes you through the twists and turns of the turbulent birth of a nation with ease, strong personalization and rich historical details. It's a long 'read/listen' but well worth immersing yourself in to live history through the lives of those who made it. Young Owen may be the fictitious springboard but he lives along side the reader making you feel as if you are a brother/sister in arms.
